Re: 3TJ Rev limiter
try leo at NM Tuning, tell him Alex put you in touch, he can mod your cdi to kit race spec for not a lot of money which will result in advanced curve and if i remeber correct 15400rpm limit. No need for m-max or speedo adaptor. But if its just a road bike then an mph/kph conv' will do the job and as previously mentioned your kph speedo will show mph so no need for stickers on the glass!

what exactly should i be looking for when i check the speedo? just that everythings plugged in etc?
Also in regards to the CDI being changed to race spec, what do you class as not a lot of money?

If it's the speed limiter then you'll know all about it as it jolts like hell and is really quite unpleasant.

Re: 3TJ Rev limiter
When you say it needs to "recieve a signal" from the speedo at 0, what exactly do you mean?
Is that what the derestriction boxes do? send a different signal so they aren't restricted to 12,500?
If that is how they work, how will fitting a kph to mph converter stop the rev limiting issue?

Re: 3TJ Rev limiter
inside the speedo there is a metal disc that cuts a signal between two points as it rotates, when you go faster the more it restricts the signal until the limiter cuts in. the speedo needs to return so that the signal can be restored and the limiter reset.
the box sends this reset signal no matter where the disc is so it doesent ct in the restrictor.
The restrictor as mentioned activates by the disc moving between the sensor at 180kph. fitting an mph convertor means basically you would need to do 180 MILEs per hour for the disc to activate the restrictor, as this wont happen, the restrictor will never cut in!

Ah i see, so in short, if i fit a kph to mph converter. Presuming it is actually the restriction thats causing the problem, the top end restriction and rev limit restriction will both stop?

Re: 3TJ Rev limiter
The restriction only comes in at 180kmh or if there's reset signal at 12,500rpm.
If your speedo has been butcherred then your bike will be limiting to 12,500, so we need to know what's going on in there. It could be the wires have been taken off or somebodies done something else.
But - if the bike is sick and can't rev past 12-13,000 then it's obviously something else ... we just need to look at the obvious stuff first.

Re: 3TJ Rev limiter
its definitelty a limiter and not just struggling, as you can hear / feel it bouncing off the limiter. I will try and take a look at the speedo asap, what should i be looking for? as i wouldnt know the difference between an intact or butchered one, i'll try to take some pics if i cant see anything obvious too

Re: 3TJ Rev limiter
another quick question, will the speedo still work with the MMax box?
as obviously its a road bike so i'd need it

Re: 3TJ Rev limiter
Yes it will work ... the m-max is just an electronic box
