REG/REC replaced but battery voltage gets LOWER over 5000rpm

Post by yellow_blackbird »

So yeah, i replaced my REG/REC with an RR55 one for an R6 / gsxr750.....as i read they're better even though it doesnt fit in the same place as the original...

yeah....when i test the battery at over 5000rpm on the bike the voltage drops to 11.5v......BELOW 5000rpm the vlotage indicated 13.5v......

whats going on????

i cant see there being an issue with the alternator, the fact you are getting higher volts at a lower rpm means it must be putting out enough volts.its maybe worthwhile testing the output of the alternator anyway just to be sure.

you should get at least 45-50 volts from the alternator at 5000rpm,to test it you remove the block connector coming from the alternator and set the multimeter to ac volts minimum 100 range.you plug one lead into a yellow wire and the other lead into another yellow wire..........then move one lead to another yellow wire and so on until you get three seperate readings.

i dont think this is the problem but it may be worth while just to rule it out.

maybe try another reg rec if you can get your hands on one just to see if its the same,if so then it could be the reg rec.

presuming all connections are sound and where they should be.good earths as well, from reg rec to battery etc!!!!!
