NC35 SPEEDO NOT WORKING
I went for my 1st run the other week, too get a mot, going down the road i noticed the speedo was not working
when i got back home i undid the cable from the speedo and pushed the bike. the cable was turning, so looks like the speedo is u/s
. i went out on it later, and the speedo was working
. i went out on it last saturday, and it had stopped again
.
any ideas, do you think it could be a simple repair to the speedo, or will i need a new one, maybe someone might have a 2nd hand one,the could sell me.
regards
alistair

Re: NC35 SPEEDO NOT WORKING
Try checking the sprocket end of the speedo cable.
THere is a plastic piece that connects drive from the sprocket nut to the cable via a little gearbox.
Sometimes the plastic becomes worn on the back of this where the flat shaft fits into the slot and just spins without driving the gears and cable.
Difficult to explain without showing!

The cable does turn, when i push the bike, are you saying that it could be sliping on the plastic bush thing underload ?

Re: NC35 SPEEDO NOT WORKING
Pretty much.
Does the flat metal piece fit tightly into the slot on the plastic?
When spinning at speed it may not be driving.
If it's a bit loose try using some plastex around it to give some more grip. If you havent got any plastex, just search ebay. It is great stuff as anyone here will tell you...
