Re: possible sp gearbox on fleabay
Interesting. Is there any easy way to tel if this is an SP box ???
If it was fitted to (for example) a 4JH engine would it be ok to use the 4JH clutch as oppossed to the SP one with the extra plate ???

Since you're washing your hands of the actual sale, Clarkee, can you spill the beans on what sort of condition this stuff is likely to be in - good working order or flogged to within an inch of its life? :D
I guess if it's "old race engine" stuff, if it was any good maybe it would still BE your race engine, and it's likely to have been given a seeing to on the track, so just wondering if it's going to be worth shipping to Australia and cramming into my disassembled ex-SP, or if it would be better off silently dumped into the nearest peat bog at midnight...
Any insight you can give would be much appreciated, especially given I'm in Oz and unlikely to see the stuff before an almightly abundance of shipping costs are visited upon my head.

Tristan - I don't think your bike's an SP. I think it was an RR with SP bodywork ....
But that's no biggie as the RR is bloody good bike in it's own right. The Sp had some nice bits on it that will raise the performance a little but most of it's for racing. The wheels for example are nice but the extra 10mins to fit the rear isn't an issue on a road bike.
The best part of the SP is the suspension and even that will be old and need a rebuild if you can even find it.
The gearbox is close ratio so it has a tall fist gear designed for hairpin bends on track. The downside though is slipping the clutch pulling away (which is where the exup helps) lots of racers ditch the gearbox as the advantage is lost on the start line.

Re: possible sp gearbox on fleabay
Was flogged a bit I suppose (see http://www.clarkeracing.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) but was refreshed two meetings before it dropped a valve, at the time it was cheaper for me to buy a different tuned engine than have it repaired. Since then it sat in my garage gathering dust till I got sick of seeing it last month and flogged it as a job lot (at about 2 grand less than it owed me
) thats racing I suppose :D

Re: possible sp gearbox on fleabay
Twas me that bought it all from Clarkee a couple of weeks ago.
I was really only after the total loss ignition rotor so I am just flogging what I don't need as I strip the engine down.
It's a shame that it dropped a valve as there had been lot's of work done on it.
Hopefully some of it will keep us on the road/track a bit longer.
