NC30 sounding quite tappetty
Well its been victories and slight failures of late!
Victory - NC30 is now running! After some valve clearancing tomfoolery :D
Slight Fail - Rear cylinder sounds quite tappety (im hoping its nothing else
)
Would this indicate that I have made a clearance too loose or too tight?
That'll teach me not to remeasure after reshimming!

Re: NC30 sounding quite tappetty
please tell me you didnt do that. my OCD would kill me if i did that.dx4 wrote: That'll teach me not to remeasure after reshimming!

when i did mine and was very thorough in doing in, and re checking after turning the engine a load of times to get the shims to seat in nicely, rechecked the clearance and most of them where smack bang in the middle.
i now think the bike sounds a little tappety, but pulls like a train. bear in mind its a 20 year old bike so it will be a little different to the sounds of new bikes.
now in saying that my bike reads 68K on the clock, and i know for a fact the speedo was replaced and was about 1oK KMS less so for a bike with 80K odd on it, it sounds good!!
have you checked the exhaust system to see its got no leaks? a leak there can sometimes be confused for a tappety sound.

Re: NC30 sounding quite tappetty
Well mine would have been too but after all the buggering around and stress with it all, I just turned the engine by hand a few times which seemed fine and got on with the next thing....
Shouldnt be leaking anymore as caught it doing that before....new studs and nuts all round
Gonna recheck the clearances on the rear cylinder before I stick the rest of the bodywork back on
Ooh not much longer now :D

The rear head just seems to be noticably louder than the front...
If I could find a decent way of recording it... I would show you all
