temprature gauge not working any ideas
Hi
my Girlfriends temprature gauge is not working on her clocks ,
I am trying to figure this out but not to sure how to check if its the gauge or the switch.
I have checked the fan and it works the needle on the gauge doesnt move however hot it gets , i would have thought the temperature would still read on the gauge even if the switch had stopped cutting in when hot. i have checked the circuit with a multi meter it seems ok any ideas how to check them both.
I had thought of taking the switch out and dunking it in a cup of boiling water to see if the fan cut in then ???
any ideas would be appreciated
cheers

Re: temprature gauge not working any ideas
Does the gauge move up slightly when the ignition is turned on? If so then i would sugget the sender unit in the radiator is defective. If it doesnt move when the ignition is switched on then its your guage at fault.

Re: temprature gauge not working any ideas
I have had the same problem with mine. I believe the sender to the gauge is separate to the fan switch. The fan switch is in the left hand side of the radiator and the temperature sender is up under the front of the tank.(correct me if im wrong). frank is correct in that the gauge should move slightly when the ignition is on, mine doesnt so im pretty sure the gauge is at fault, as this is integrated into the clocks a replacement may not be easy to come by. new clocks are silly prices so i live with mine. If the fan starts then its hot. I check the fan regularly now. CB500 clocks and NTV650 clocks look similar and are sometimes on ebay. Good luck.
