[HELP] Damn rounded off/screwed/grounded nut! WTF???

Post by jake_gsxr »

Hey guys, had my bike for a while now but came off abit ago when it was icy!
Its been leaking oil since, and i've tracked it down to the RHS Engine Casing.
I've emailed some breakers to try get hold of one but having no luck!!
Any idea what to use to seal it in the mean time, i've been recommended to use some JB weld or along the likes!
Anyway some pics,

Cheers,

EDIT:

New question now guys, what spark plugs do i need for my 1988 GK73a,

I've looked on the net and have been advised

CR9Ek - Owners Manual
CR8EK - Service Manual
and
CR8-HSA - Currently whats in the bike,

So ye, i'm pretty confused now!

Cheers

Jake,

2nd EDIT!!!

Right, come to do filter change, and not only can i not get a socket to one of the nuts to get the cover off because the downpipes are in the way, it looks like its been stripper, then drilled and almost grounded down!

I'll get a picture up, but how the hell do i go about getting this nut of???

Please, advice would be awsome!! :|

Jake

Hi Jake,
If you take it to a good local engieering firm, one that specializes in alloy work, you should be able to get it welded prity cheap.

Have you tried Riders?

Or Wemoto?

Have no idea about the temp fix though, sorry.

As a temporary fix you can use good quality silicone sealant (not the cheap bathroom type) you would need to get the area clean and dry using carb cleaner or similar and probably draining the oil then spread the silicone in and around the crack and let set. In the long-run a good engineering/welding company should be able to weld up the crack pretty cheap.

I ran an engine for weeks with this fix done with not so much as a dribble ;)

My Jap manual says CR9EK (NGK) or U27ETR (ND)
I put irridium plugs CR9E-IX (NGK) in my bike and runs great, to be honest I changed the plugs as soon as I got the bike so it may be no different to before when it had CR9E plugs?

Hi Jake can you post a pic so we can see wot you mean, you should have three dome headed nuts that thread onto three 6mm studs that are in the casing, is yours still like this?

Hey, ye thats exactly what it is!

If you are looking at it face on, the domed nut on the bottom right is totally buggered and has been rounded totally off!

Now, there is like no room between the downpipes and this nut!

I have bought some wet weld so i'm gonna try and wet weld another nut on it to try and get it off before taking it to actually weld one on as i think this is the best option!

Hope that makes sense!

Sorry not to have got back sooner, you will have to take the exhaust off and then have a small length of steel mig welded to the nut, the heat will free it up and then you can brake the lock and remove the nut. Not the easiest way but it will work.
