You could try the local library for one of the books as they would help.

Right some news....

Mananged to get bike started again today off starter button by increasing throttle slowly while cranking, eventually it fires.

I put the colortune into the spark plug, they say your after a bunsen blue combustion colour which you will find just after the colour turns yellow.

I turned the idle all the way in, it was red / orange, I screwed it all the way out until it nearly popped out  and it only just went yellow.

So no matter what I do to the idle, I cannot get the correct colour combustion.

What now ... is there even anything else I can try now ?

Only thing I can think of is, would lowering or raising the fuel level in the float bowl effect idle ? the bike is ok at 3,000rpm, even down to 2,700rpm, any less than that, and the bike stalls.

So now we know the idle scews are ineffective, where would I need to look next to get them to come into play ? I can only assume fuel level might make a difference ? either that or a different set of idle scews ?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi Matt,
If you set the floats at the recommended height they will not affect the tickover. Because of the open carbs you will now need to rejet, you say youre turning the idle screw, do you mean the throttle stop adjuster or the pilot screw at the back of the carb (underneath). If its the pilot screw and its not bringing the mixture in its because you need to change the piolt jet that is in the float bowl, smaller than the main jet up inside a tube.If youre carbs are like the Bandit that i have the pilot jet is blanked off from the bowl with a small rubber bung that must be in place, it makes the pilot jet get its fuel from the main jet and helps throttle response.Do you know how much to go up on the pilots Jay?

Wow Variable I hope I understand what your saying...

The carbs have a brand new factory pro stage 3 carb kit, new emulsion tubes, new o-rings all through, new idle jets, spring, silver washer and rubber o-ring to make the idle screws complete.

I mean the pilot scews, one on each carb, they cannot be set at any stage from all the way in to all the way out, 95% screwed out was the best setting, any further out and they will fall out lol.

Please have a look at the following pics to see if I understand you correctly ...

So are you saying theres a jet under this black rubber bung and I need to take that jet out and get a new one or a bigger one ? and how come no one else knows this, not even factory pro mention it despite saying you must run with K&N's, well my filters are like K&N's but theres no mention of this jet.

Please tell me if I get a bigger jet in there all me probs will be solved LOL (crosses everything).

Thanks in advance :)

P.S. am just editing to add further information, is this what am looking at :

If so do I just order a new one or do I need one bigger size ? if so what size and where can I get one from ?

So many questions... (sorry) but I'll let you have a good go on it when its fixed :D

your bike should not have the rubber things unless they are b4 carbs and i dont think with that kit you would need to mess with the pilot just make sure that it is clean and note the size...

The pics above are my carbs with the black rubber bungs in them.

My bike has never idled since I got it, I bet there worn, just like me idle scews were bent ! lol

So you think replace with standard then ? clearly something is having an effect on idle and its not the individual idle scews, there brand new and I still cannot get idle so it has to be these pilot jets.

I noticed there are 2 more jets at the front of the carbs, I might as well replace em all while am at it, I did try to take one out long time ago and it wasnt havin any of it, I'll have to get a proper screwdriver set and take me time and see what state there in.

I'll take out the pilot jets tomorrow and take a pic show you what condition there in :D

wait if you have gsxr 400 carbs then those rubber things need to go take them out and try to start the bike might idle fine...this im sure is a problem for most mechanics if they just have bandit info and not the true gsxr stuff you start to commingle parts that really dont go...

Yeah try taking out that black plug and unscrewing the jet underneath there and making sure its very clean and the hole is clear, these get blocked easily. then put the carbs back together without the black plugs and try it then.
