Cheers fellas.
Well that's good to hear M1ke! Mine's an import, though god only knows where the engine came from, as it's not the original. :?: The chain didn't look loose, so I guess it's ok! 8-)

On the subject of carbs; I was thinking of balancing them with my guages once I put them back on, but then remembered someone saying that carbs can be balanced when they're off using a drill bit??? Can anyone shed any light on this please?
When the mind is relaxed, the body will go faster! 8-)

Sligeách wrote:i did the valve Clearances on the V4 in Feb and on the IL4 (1998 ZX6) about a month ago.

the V4 was ok to do with the help of the haynes, measuing the clearance was easy. it was only pushing the rocker arm aside and putting a new shim in that was hard to do (fat fingers)

the IL4 was easy to measure the clearances too, but you have to undo 20 bolts to get the cams cover off. then take out the followers, then take out the shims, replace them and then re-bolt on the cam cover. the cam chain isnt that bad, but the haynes was essential, i would have been up sh!t creek without a paddle without it.

i,m in the SM3 postcode if you get stuck i'll give you a hand if you're not too far away
Sounds like the job was only 1/3rd done. There are shims as per normal that you check with the VV set to low, this sounds like what you did, then with the VV set to high you have to set the small top hat shims and finally the real pain is with the VV set at low again you have to set the clearence between the high and low shims with the nut and pin and you'll have to have a special tool to do it. VV models STINK beleive me!!!!!!
