headlight wiring/sidelight system on NC30
following on from previous threads and trying to return to road a track bike(long story). all the light switchgear is fitted now and all the clocks (except speedo) the oil warning and neual lights come on when turn ignition. all the other bulbs in the clock loom appear fine... ( FYI i havent connected up main headlights/indicators yet as waiting on mr postman!!)
however the backlight bulbs for the gauges dont light up even with the ignition on and the light switch turned on. now i think im missing the low beam relay that the haynes indicates is normally to the left of the headlights(bottom of page 9.5 if anyone wants to look)?? i have the hight beam one down the right hand bit of frame above the genny.(again cant test at this stage as awaiting main headlights still
i have a copy of the haynes but i cant see anything that relates to this point
would this ultimately stop the sidelights/clock illumination from working by just not having it??? (obviously without one i can test!!)
n.b the front loom has not been cut, was just unplugged to make a track bike. and in hindsight ive not even looked at the fuse's yet for the lights.. but wanted to clear up this point if anyone knows..??
if the above is true and i need one - anyone got one pleaseeeeeee?
cheers for help in advance

You don't need a low beem relay for you side lights to work.
Like you said fuse would probably be a good place to start.

Ive just stripped my loom down for the track, as you know. So if you need the low beam relay let me know.

Re: headlight wiring/sidelight system on NC30
is your bike a jap import?
i was confused by the position of the relay on my bike,i only had the relay by the frame on the r/h side....just like you said.
according to the manual for uk spec bikes this is the high beam relay and for jap spec the high beam relay is by the right hand side of the clocks.but there is no relay by the clocks on mine.
you will know when you get the lights on and working, when i put the full beam on the relay clicks.
maybe this is another mistake by the haynes manual.

how much if i wanted it fella?chrisja2 wrote:Ive just stripped my loom down for the track, as you know. So if you need the low beam relay let me know.
Chris.
ithough gues the clarification is that the jap import nc30- does it have 2 relays one for low and one for high, high being by the r/h frame, the low by the clocks. and id imagine they both appear the same with the same connetion block..
i may have answered my own question there, as i could swap my high beam relay over , but then would the bike run the lights sidelights/dip beam ok without the other relay plugged in?
-im obviously tryingto avoid butchering the loom and i dont have a working example to compare to.
likw wullvfr seyz, the haynes does assume everything is there in the first place,... even if not necessarily working..
