nc30 cutting out after a short ride -Tried everything here!!

Post by el_scor_cho »

hey guys need a bit of help.
my vfr 400cc (1989 nc30) runs fine for a while then seems to starve itself of gas after 5-10mins. almost exactly the same feeling as when the reserve switch on the tank is needed to be switched on. have taken apart the tank pipes etc and all seems to be in working order.

another thing is that i can no longer let the bike idle without the choke on, or else it revs too low and dies.
this wasn't a gradual thing.

i realise this is a common problem here and i have read every page on this workshop forum and found many others with the same problem as me; however most seem to solve their problems before i can, mine.

i have checked all the lines over and over and have bypassed the vacuum tube. my breathers on my tank are working fine and have ridden with the tank half off as to not squeeze any tubes one the bike gets heated.

this problem came hand in hand with the bike not being able to idle without choke on and if left to sit for a while (around 1.5k revs) and then given gas, a spluttering sound come from the bike.

this all occured after a 4hr ride in the pouring rain where half way through the ride, my speedo decided it had had enough and now jumps all over the place wherever it wants. has anyone heard of these bikes going into a "safe mode" of sorts once the speedo is disconnected, which may be causing my problem?

Any ideas or input wil be much appreciated to help me get back on the road
thanks!
