Tacho help

howdy folks, basically my tacho stopped working a few months ago i bought a second hand working one off ebay and tried it but still no luck
I've checked all the wires going into it for breaks etc but still nothing, so im wanting to check the pickup the cdi takes but i dont have a clue where it comes from, or if anybody knows what else to check

yeah, everything else on the bike is working fine apart from this

The tacho signal comes from the CDI unit. It is a yellow-green cable. It is also fed by a green-blue (negative, ground) and a brown-black( batt+).

I think fingers has hit the nail on the head, I'd be inclined to say there's a problem with the earthing wire.

as nellie says...i mean viper says,more times than not it is a problem with the earth!!!!

riteo little update, checked all the wires going to the tacho and all are fine but.....
now the bike wont start, all plugs are sparking but very weak sparks, if the cdi was fooked would this happen??

what are the conditions of the electrodes?

I have exactly the same problem last week and when i got the plugs out they where carbonized.

Also try checking the voltage at the distrobution block, i.e the block the h/t leads go into, you can test by pulling out the top right plug and put positive on it and negitive to the frame and turn it over and you sould be getting around 12 volts.

Ill check the plugs and give a clean then, didnt actually have them out yet as i just used a spare one to check the spark
Hopefully its just a wee handy fix as im skint and cant afford another cdi unit

All sorted now, pulled all the plugs and gave them a clean even tho they wernt that dirty
checked them all for sparks aswell, this time tho they all gave a good strong spark so i fired them all back in and away she went.... for about 30 seconds
Checked the plugs again and none were sparking, so i just went round every connector block on the bike with WD40 then away she went
turned out to be one of the ones under the airbox (tacho still dosnt work tho )
