nc23 fork refubishment

Post by gaz@nc23 »

hi everyone,
this is just a quick one, my front suspension doesn't really fill me with confidence in the corners, and they dive under braking of any kind :scare:

so my question is what would be the first port of call for improving the suspension?
i was thinking i should use a heavier grade oil, (maybe 15w) as i've read on here that the suspension is designed for small light japanesse folk, n at 12.5 stone, i think i may be to heavy. or would i be better getting some new springs like the hagon progressive fork springs. or even paying someone to refurbish them profesionaly.

i'm hoping someone on here is a suspension guru

please help so i can have some confidence

thanx gaz

i would personally get them uprated, i did mine myself and fitted ohlins internalls and the difference is unreal, its not that hard to do if your handy with the spaners, but it also depends how much you got to spend, a rebuild with fresh springs and oil is cheaper and if done by a susspension specialist who would set them up correctly to your weight would also make a huge difference, end of the day its all down to the cash you can afford

nice one guys,
im gonna go for the heavier oil and springs option, coz i aint got that much to spend,as much as i'd like some ohlins internals, but is there any particular band and or type of springs that u wud recomend? n wheres best to get them from?

you dont need the name brand stuff in the 23 front end...it works well with just the spring and oil change...ive raced guys with even the 600 frontend conversion done...still kicked ass

GF will advise you on the springs (inc rate), oil & air gap. He will also be able to supply you the parts (good proce also).

If you decide to go else where - I suggest you do not go for progressive springs - you want linear, with a spring rate to suit you & your riding. Any proper spring supplier will be able to help.

However - GF is a one stop shop

get the bits off GF and before you go at it have a look on youtube.

i have to confess that between this forum, youtube, haynes and years of messing in my Dads workshop i have got most of my bike maintenance from.

i like this youtube link
