I'm just re-building mine too, so if anyone knows what the standard & safe race clearances are that would be great. :ugeek:

piston to head clearance, what clearance have you got now,the min is 0.53mm, above that will be safer, as everything else needs to be spot on if you are near the limmit, valve drop and all that stuff, is it on a race 3tj !

Nice one RRSP it's my old race bike, The smallest clearence I have is 0.65mm up to 0.90 but my measuring may not be that good! I could use two base gaskets & that will take it up another 0.35mm.
Do you know what the standard clearance is as I don't want to go to far?

0.65 will be ok,its still on the safe side, if you had 2 base gaskets it would make bigger pist/valve clearance bigger. dont know what it is standard, i do have a standard head which i could measure if that helps !

Yes if you could measure the head, also do you have some barrels you can measure as well.
