Factory Pro stage 3 kit and me bikes knackered !
Hi guys.
Well today I installed me stage 3 factory pro carb kit.
Got bike outside, and put jump leads to it from me 600.
Tried to start the 400, engine cranking but no go.. so I waited, tried again, engine cranking but no start.
Then I tries again and it goes 1 crank and stops... nothing....
Then I looked down and the bike is peein fuel all over the floor comin straight outta the belmouths
So it sounds like I fooked me bike a good un,.. how can this happen
2 things then..
1 - Why is fuel comin out the back of all the carbs and spewing all over the bike
2 - Why now when I hit start button will the engine not even turn over
Heres some more info ..
STARTING PROBLEM
Right heres a video to my 2-part problem.
Here I am trying best to demonstrate the starting issue, have a look at this video :
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1qoJXeoy5OM
You can see my first attempt at starting the bike, between 10 and 11 second that was me trying to start the bike, it just knocks and stops, I then try again only this time the same knocking then it tries to crank but it never did the first time.
Starter motor on its way out ? I dunno....
Then I still have the fuel issue, man its gonna be a busy petrol covered Christmas

cant answer why fuel is pissin out but will not turn over coz fuel is in the bores and has what know as Hydroliced, piston can compress fuel.
Talke plugs out and crank over, put cloth over where plug come out or you will get covered in fuel.
Will leave to the tech bods as to why you got in this mess now thou.

Cheers for that Aly, wasn't aware that too much fuel could cause this non-starting to happen.
I am wondering if because I didn't set my float heights that this could mean theres too much fuel in the float bowls ? but I cannot find 1 single source that makes sense on the net for how to set the float heights, some say lay it on its side but don't tell you how far etc.
Also I used new floats in the float bowls, I might try my old ones see if that makes a difference.
Cheers for the input so far.
Matt :)

To set the float heights i would say turn them completely upside down for now as that will get you accurate enough readings.

Howdy chaps
Quick update on the 400 situation.
Went to Halfords today, digital verniers, £20 but got em cos needed em, there a cool tool too enjoyed messin with it today.
Anyway, took carbs to bits again and I put me old float valve things back in as the new ones I got was clearly not the same.
Put bike back together and tried to start it, no joy, however this time the bike wasnt overflowing with fuel like it was yesterday, so thats at least 1 problem solved.
I then jumped the bike from Rachels and still it wouldnt start but it was close.
I then thought hmm wonder if it would bump, but first I put the air box back on as you could hear it was getting too much air, I put that back on hit the starter button and it fired into life.
I am still having same problems as always though, the bike will just not idle correctly i've set it at 2.75 turns out and new idle valve washes and still no joy.
Took bike out for a spin half way round block and I had me emergency AA breakdown phone with me.
Bike didn't pull well at all, started slowing down from 10,000rpm onwards, so I think I need to put the lower main jet in, its obviously too much for it, I got up to 90mph and what came down the other side of the road, yep the fuzz so I pulled clutch in waited and then nailed it again and got it home.
Not happy with it so far but at least its not spillin fuel everywhere and it does start, its progress.. I think
Next step will be to go down to the 117.5 main jet as the 120 is too much and try again (sigh) well thats my Christmas day planned out already
