Re: Running on 3.
NC29 fully sorted. The '35 was next on the list but someone has shown a glimmer of interest in my XS400 'project' bike. He wants pics and info, so that means putting the front wheel, bars, lights etc back on (which are normally off to make room in the garage) before I take a snap or two. Plus listing all the parts I've accumulated. I doubt anything will come of it but you never know. If it was to go then that would free up enough space for...

Re: Running on 3.
XS400 project bike sold! The bloke said he was impressed with the quality of work done so far and reckoned it wouldn't be too difficult to finish. So he's happy to pay me the asking price..or he's offering a '97 FireBlade as part of the deal..or he will do a custom paint job on my spare Bonneville tank (he's the bloke who did a good job respraying my NC29) as part of the deal. Decisions, decisions

Re: Running on 3.
Just rediscovered this old thread of mine. It was interesting to be reminded of the problems this bike has suffered from and yes, I've still got it..and yes, it still has issues.
It's gone through periods of running reasonably well and then playing up again. It's been 'looked at' by someone else and had the carbs off again. When it came back it ran ok but only for a couple of months. I've ignored it for nearly 3 months now but I'm reluctant to drag it out only to be disappointed that it either won't start or won't run on all 4 or will let me down if I get it on the road, in other words I've totally lost confidence in it. Which is a shame as it's probably the best handling bike I've owned.
Speaking of bikes I've owned, since I started this thread I added a sub-4000 mile 2002 CBR600FS to the garage. This was chopped in last year for a new Triumph Daytona 660. And in November I came across a 1998 ZX7R in superb condition (except for scabby wheels) with under 2000 miles on the clock. How could I say no? So there are 5 bikes squashed into the garage. Which means a lot of manoeuvring is required to get the RVF out of its corner. Which means it might stay there for a while longer.

Re: Running on 3.
I've remembered a couple of incidents that happened to the bike since my 2023 posts. On one occasion, at around 60-70 mph, the reg/rec went pop and took a section of the wiring with it. That resulted in a slow journey home, followed by an upgraded reg/rec from Rick O plus some rewiring.
Another time I heard a clunking sound, which got louder when I accelerated but stopped when I slowed down. At the same time power became intermittent and the bike stuttered until I slowed, then felt fine and was ok as long as I kept the speed down. But the problem returned when I went faster, along with the clunking sound. So another slow journey home.
After stripping off the tail section I discovered the Ignitech box had come loose from it's housing and was hanging by the wires. Obviously it banged about more as l accelerated and interrupted the signal which caused the stuttering.
At some point since 2023, following yet another chat with Graeme France, he sent me a refurbed set of NC30 carbs. which have been fitted. But the bike still refuses to run reliably, or at least that was the case last time it was on the road. However the time before that (I keep a careful record) it ran without a problem.
I'm convinced the problem(s) is electrical rather than a fuelling issue, although I have got a replacement fuel tap (yet to be fitted) just in case the irregular idle is down to a leaky diaphragm.
When the weather warms up a bit I'll drag it out and see what mood it's in.

Re: Running on 3.
I see you have an ignitech fitted, have you an oem ignition system to to try.
