NC35 Ignition Lock Key Problem

Post by blacksoda11 » Wed Feb 07, 2018 11:25 am

Hey All,

Just recently purchased a RVF400 and for some odd reason I cant get the ignition key to fully turn to lock. So the steering is able to move.

Anyone else experienced this problem or is my ignition lock set just faulty?

Cheers

Mine's the same. Don't know why. It's never been a problem coz I don't leave the bike unattended in a place where it could get nicked (e.g. Manchester city centre). Bike meets and pub carparks aways seem pretty safe but a disk lock might be useful just in case.

I replaced the unit when I had the same issue with my RVF, several years ago. However the sticky ignition barrel of a newly purchased NC30 responded well to 2in1 and PB Blaster

What did you have to buy to replace the unit? also was it hard to do it yourself?

I bought a replacement barrel, can’t recall if it was OE or a copy, as it was 9 years ago. Honda ones available here https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-rvf400rr-rr ... ml#results (try Fowler’s too) and many aftermarket ones available on eBay. I had a mechanic swap it over then but I would consult my Haynes and do it myself now.

I am assuming you are talking about putting the steering lock on.

If so have you turned the bars to the "lock position" before turning the key? On the NC30 this is full left lock and the bars have to be there before you can turn the key to "lock" and then remove the key.

Hello
Have you pressed down on the key before turning it anticlockwise
The steering has to be turned fully to the left also

I had the same issue , was wear to the end of the key blade a guy on ebay cut me a set of keys from
The numbers on the blades and work perfect after that , only around £20 he explained his keys are cut to the depths the bike left the factory with eliminating any wear thats been produces over the year . So gave it a go for that kind of money needed a spare anyways and worked for me was made up
