NC30 BMW shock heavier spring purchase
Hi Guys,
Recently bought an NC30 which came with the BMW shock to be fitted onto it. Was doing a bit of research and think ill just go for the heavier spring rather than splash out on the HRC link as im only using it on the road and the stock shock is of course knackered.
Im 14 stone 10 pounds (93kg) in full gear, and am wondering:
Where can I order the appropriate spring which I understand has a taper
2.What weight of spring would be appropriate for my weight from reading it would be 850-900lb?
Sorry if its already been answered, theres a couple posts from 2013 about the shock + HRC link and elsewhere demontweeks and a taper is mentioned but nothing concrete, thanks!
Dave

Re: NC30 BMW shock heavier spring purchase
I bought a straight spring and had adaptors turned from Al.
I would recommend HRC link instead.

Hi thanks for your response mate.krisztian_andre wrote:I bought a straight spring and had adaptors turned from Al.

Im trying to avoid the HRC link due to costs. I wouldnt be a fabrication master tbh I just want an improvement over the stock shock without killing myself :)
Anyone run the heavier spring without adaptors? Or again anyone have a source to get a tapered spring? Im not even sure what I would be asking a specialist to build, spring length and inner diameter of each end?

FYI I ended up Getting in touch with an ebay seller that had one up for sale with a heavier spring. Anyone looking for one might try there or the many facebook groups are a good hive of activity for parts also

Yes Actually I emailed them about springs for front and rear it but in the time it took them to respond I had sorted out the front and had a rear shock in the post. I know some lads love a natter on the phone but I just havent the time :)hunter wrote:Maxton will supply a spring.
They said they could do the rear spring at £95 but hadnt done it before so i'd have to send them the shock, thatd be another 30-50 euro for me to send off and return from them so I wasnt too pushed on that. Would be worth your while if you are in the UK

Re: NC30 BMW shock heavier spring purchase
I made a spacer plate that sat between the lower plate and the spring as I felt my shock had gone soft but still damped well. I wound up compressing the spring a further 14mm and had to adjust the damping to suit so if you have access to a lathe it might work for you too. It's the best the bike has handled ever. Obviously, if the damping is shot, it'll probably make things worse and how long this solution will last I don't know but it's working great for now.
NB, I don't have the BMW shock - mine is a Showa one although I don't think it's the original.
