Spent a good hour in the shed tonight (pics to follow) and did some wrenching.

Am stripping the bike back to a rolling frame. Removed the instrument cluster, whole wiring loom, radiator, exhaust system.

The wiring loom by the instrument cluster had a small box plumbed in, I'm assuming it's a bypass for the speed cut or rev limiter?? Doesn't matter what it is anyway, as I'm getting another wiring loom but feel free to educate me!!

The guy I bought the bike off said the muffler had a 'small leak' that would be an 'easy fix'.....haha, you guys are going to shit yourself laughing when I upload a picture of the muffler!!! One whole end of the can is rotten and the insides have blown to pieces. It was only sitting in place and probably would've blown off if I gave it throttle!! Oh well, it was ugly as sin anyway and I'm gonna purchase stainless headers so will need a decent muffler to finish it off.

I purchased an NC29 engine and wiring loom online today and will pick that up in a week or so.

I also went to a local engineer workshop and showed him a photo of the tab/lug that is missing from the frame and got the green light on repairing it!! Wicked!!

Things are progressing pretty well so far.....touch wood.

Pretty sure all the NC29 engine numbers begin with NC23. Have a look at the 'document library' at the top of the page, gives all the info on year of manufacture and whatnot.

Where are you getting the stainless headers from?

I'll guarantee my two nc23's in the shed are in worse condition. One for example is in pieces, the other looks like it was attacked by a 2 year old

eBay. About $500 NZD. I know some guys on here will want to tell me that stainless headers don't give the best performance etc etc but I like them, they look nice, they'll last ages and they sound great....so they will go on my bike!

Managed to get the front sprocket off the motor this arvo, so I'm technically 1 step closer to the engine removal!!

Removing the donk is probably a basic process but I think I'll buy a Haynes manual anyway.....just in case.

Still can't decide on what paint scheme I'm gonna go for either?? I'm a huge Rossi fan but Yamaha paint schemes on a Honda seems wrong???....

Why not a Rossi scheme from when he rode for Honda?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking about to be honest. I'm getting ahead of myself though, still a long way from putting any fairings on the bike!!

I quite like this look:

And this is what one of my previous 400s looked like:

Did a bit more work in the garage tonight......

This broken tab is annoying me so much. I'm wondering if I could get away with grinding it smooth and just deleting it completely??? Thoughts??

Image

The shock looks pretty adjustable but having never ridden the bike I'm unsure how good it is yet.

Image

Here's the spare motor sitting in a fish bin. I haven't even taken a good look at it yet and probably won't for a while. Nice bit of insurance though having another power plant if need be.

Image

This is the end of the muffler that the PO said 'had a bit of a leak'. Hahaha.

Bike getting undressed....

Image

Bike as it stands now. Nearly naked. No rear brake. No foot pegs. No Sub-Frame.

That's all for now.
