Found a PCB behibd the clocks...derestrictor???
Has anyone seen this before?
While taking off all the plastics of my new NC30 I found a little plastic bag with this inside. The whole thing was "water-proofed" by a bit of electric tape wrapped around the opening of the bag over the cables!!!
The wires go to a connector under the clocks with wires of the same colour disappearing into the main loom.

Looks like an HSC original part (Honda Shed Corporation) :D
What I can't understand is that, if a simple resistor can derestrict the bike, why all the extra components in there

Re: Found a PCB behibd the clocks...derestrictor???
is that not all the components that are part of the switch that when the needle reaches 180kph the bike misfires as it runs on two cylinders?
im sure that just removing it from the speedo simply stops the switch from being triggered meaning it can go past the 180kph........the reason it was wrapped up would be to stop water getting in and causing it to probably run on two cylinders at around the 5000rpm mark!!!i have heard this being called "limp home mode"
so i don't think anyone has added any de-restriction mods but simply just removed the switch from the speedo!!!!!!
i may be wrong though

I think you are right, the two blue bits are the "switch" that the disc runs between.wullvfr wrote:looking at the picture more closely i think i am wrong...ah well!!!!!!

Yes that is the de-restrictor method described on this forum a long time back.
I did it to my bike about 8 years ago and haven't had any problems since.
Regards,
Dave.

yeah don't worry about it, you might wanna ziptie a plastic bag over it to stop it getting too wet.
Don't cut it off though else the bike will missfire above 5500rpm's

Sorrry for my ignorance,
Do you mean that people remove the whole circuit board from the speedo housing and leave it hanging behind the clocks?
I topught that there is some kind of tab inside the speedo that you can bend or cut and that would do the same job without risk of water playing up with the circuit board
Am I missing something?
By the way Dave. the rlaboratory sent back the results and the red paint splodges are HRC flaming Doohan red... gives the bike an extra 30hp. Either that or blood from the previous owners grazed knuckels!

there was a page dedicated to all the different ways of de-restricting the 180kph restriction......im sure someone will be able to give you a link to it,i seen it the other day but can't remember where.

Sorry Alfminator, my comment was a diversion aimed at Neosophist, who is trying to get some paint details for me.Alfminator wrote:By the way Dave. the rlaboratory sent back the results and the red paint splodges are HRC flaming Doohan red...
William is right about the information that used to be here, though it was in the last century. If I powered up my old computer, I may be able to find it, but the aim of the modification is to prevent anything passing between the two pillars on the PCB sensor. So bending the tab, or re-locating the PCB achieve the same result. There is also an extra box which can be fitted externally, or the 'Resistor' mod, etc, etc.

Dave.
