well, its become quite clear that the previous owner of my gorgeous little nc30 didnt treat her too well... ( valve clearances hadnt been checked in ages, carb badly gunked up, rear wheel nut chewed to smithereens ect ect) and since im not planning on selling her.. ever... i was wondering what kind of things i should look at repairing/replacing after all these years of wear and tear- i started thinking about this when i decided to have the internals replaced on my forks as the front end feels a bit off...
any advice would be well appreciated...

Valve clearances as you have mentioned. not too difficult - Viper done a great "how to"

carbs - you can de-gunk yourself, would also be an idea to get it jetted to suit exhaust and balanced.

rear wheel nut - easy to pick a new one up that isnt chewed.

Rear hub - are the teeth in good order for adjusting the hub for chain? also remove hub as there WILL be loads of crap in there which will stop the hub rotating if it hasnt been done recently or have the swinger foam filled.

suspension in general - most bikes are aroun 19-16 years old and suspension will be knackered unless its been look at previously.

general maintanence - things some people over look until it fails e.g. bleeding brakes, replacing coolant, head bearings, etc.

bodywork - no essential but there was a while there where people go some plastex and repaired the lugs on their panels. maybe worth consiering if its going to be off road for winter?

im sure there is more...

thats the sort of thing i need...
so far, shes had a full service, new rear shock, new brake lines, oil and coolant change-
should i be thinking about things like wheel bearings? fuel lines? wiring?

wheel bearings are easy changed so you can do that,fuel line ? just change it if you need to but i'd sooner change the vacuum pipe as ones i have seen are normally cracked and hard, i'd leave the loom alone unless it looks like the tape is coming off around the ends in which case just re tape things.

the tape on the loom is a bit scraggy... was wondering if the serious amount of heat would affect it?
the vacuum pipe you say? will have a look at that...
the only reason i ask is cos i should have done this with my previous bike. bought an Aprilia RS125, not brilliant condition, fixed it up as best i could, but it seemed like every week something else broke.

The rear wheel bearings on these bikes seem pretty robust (needle roller type) If you want you could take apart the rear hub and clean & inspect everything, re-grease the wheel bearing. It will probably have little wear grooves in the rollers, which is normal, if they are deep enough to feel with your fingernail then its time to replace it.
