NC24 restoration. What to look out for?

Post by MrLucky »

So I will be restoring a rather sorry looking NC24. :o

Ideally I would like to restore to a reasonable standard but of course for as little outlay as possible. I have restored bikes before and have a reasonable '1 and a bit' car sized garage with good lighting, electricity supply, work bench, vice, many tools and a bike lift so I am reasonably well kitted out (just need a beer fridge).

I have never restored a bike as complicated as this before. So what are the pitfalls with this particular model? What should I look out for and what parts should I be expecting to replace. From what I can gather collector boxes are a problem, both sourcing and fitting as I understand it is an engine out job (oh joy).

I know I am going to need to source an exhaust as it has no end can with the bike. I am also going to need a full panel set but that will be sourced from China. What else is there to worry about with these rather fancy machines?

All help and comments, sarcastic or otherwise, are appreciated...
