3TJ1 Fork Question Help

Post by Maelstrom »

Hi,
My 3TJ1 forks had a bodgy air fork piece of junk fitted to them.
I removed that and bought a new original cap off ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Yamaha- ... 1640123761
However, my thread in the fork stanchion does not start until 18mm inside the tube, which is deeper than the cap.
So either the thread ha been machined out of the stanchion to fit the brain dead air-forks, or the cap is not the correct part.
Anyone know how it should be.
Thanks
Blair

That sounds odd, the part you linked to looks right for the forks.
Did they shorten the spacer as well ?
Can you get the fork top copied with a longer thread ?

Thanks EC.
What a pain in the neck.
The spacer is 135mm which is what it says in the parts book.
Your right about making a custom top. That would be the easiest way.

Well it could be done but I don't want to lose that much length off the front.
I am going to give up and fit USD forks, goes with the R4 theme anyway.
