Registering a hybrid.
Guys,
I'm trying to be a good boy and register my 3TJ/600 hybrid properly with the DVLA. I filled in the log book with the change of engine details and sent it off to Swansea.
But, they wrote back asking for confirmation of the engine size! They have already changed the engine number, but not the capacity. The options they seem to give are to provide a receipt for the engine from a garage, including engine number, capacity and fuel type, OR written evidence on garage headed paper from the garage that did the engine change, OR an inspection report from the AA or RAC, OR a receipt from the garage I bought the bike from if the conversion was done before I bought it!!!
As I bought two bike to make the one, did the work myself and did not get a V5 with the 600, I don't have most of those options.
How have others changed their engine with the DVLA?
Alex.

Mine too, got pulled over too. With speeds that a 400 could never reach. And the copper wasn't a complete noob. So he knew sommit was wrong and started bitching about the fact that the reg. papers still said it was a 400.zimm wrote: mine's still registered as a 400, but its insured as a 600.
However on my insurace papers it clearly says "Dit voertuig is verzekered met een FZR600 blok" Translated that means, we insure this bike even though it has a larger engine in it. And then he stopped bitching, but was still nice enough to give me a massive fine.
With my current 4/6 project i do plan to have it inspected and have new papers made.

I would be very interested to know what the UK guys have done on this as I have now got nearly all of the parts to do the conversion.

Re: Registering a hybrid.
Just to update this thread, I sent off the V5 to change the engine number and capacity. DVLA changed the engine number but wanted proof of the capacity of the engine.
A quick call, followed by an email, to Yamaha UK had a letter on Yamaha headed paper with the info that DVLA said they wanted!
That has now all been sent off back to Swansea and I await to see what happens...
The contact I have had with Yamaha UK for both this and another technical matter has been both professional and enjoyable. A refreshing change in this day and age!
Alex.

Out of interest what information did the DVLA want and Yamaha UK supply on their headed paper?

Re: Registering a hybrid.
The DVLA wanted confirmation of the engine number and capacity. Yamaha UK also confirmed the age, but that was in addition to Swanseas requirements.
There were other options from the DVLA, but they all involved the garage that either supplied the engine, did the conversion or sold the bike already converted. None of these applied to me as I bought a whole bike and did all the work myself!
Have you got a hybrid to register?
Alex.

Not yet, currently collecting the bits. Got a thundercat engine complete with carbs, thundercat loom and radiator, now just looking for a set of headers and some time to attempt the conversion (did some tinkering with 2 strokes many years ago, so need to get my hand back in). Did you use the fzr600 or thundercat engine?

Re: Registering a hybrid.
I bought these as I thought they were cheap enough to not be bothering on the 2nd hand market.
