Need help or advice! NC 24 stalling on higher speed

Post by speedfreak87 »

Hey guys,

Now I need the NC24 experts:

I have the problem that the engine stalls after accelarating on the highway. If I am going to highspeed with full throttle the engine dies just a few seconds after reaching the sixth gear.
Than it simply does not accept any position of throttle any longer.
I have to stop and use full choke to instantly start the engine again.
After starting I can turn off the Choke very quickly.

Btw. The same stall of the engine appears after riding with a higher but constant speed for about several minutes...

...Its the NC24 model with one big headlight if that helps...

I allready checked the fuel system, it seems to be okay. I would think it has to do with the air intake and or the carbs...but I dont know.

Maybe one of you guys has had this problem allready in the past.

Greetings from Germany

your vaccum pipe is broken. (small pipe between engine and fuel tap

its collapsing at high speed and cutting the fuel off and running the bike out of fuel until you back off the thortlte.

Replace the vaccum pipe with new good quality hose and youll be fine.

had the problem on several bikes before.

thanks for your advice. I will try to check this pipe. Do you maybe have a picture of it? Or an address where to buy the spare part?

Edit: Or could you please tell me which number is the vacuum pipe:

#7 PFKL343908 TUBE, AUTO COCK AIR

This is the pipe.

It connects to the left hand rear cylinder (left side when sitting on the bike) just hidden by the frame tube to the fuel tap.

Hey thank you for you reply.
I always wondered what this little pipe is used for. And it actually looks like one of the preowners had tried to renew it.
Now I will look out for a new "stronger" pipe and replace the bad one. Hopefully the VFR will run better after the replacement.
I will keep you informed....

Rick Oliver sells the pipe, you can also get direct from Honda dealer.

Hey guys,

just another question:
Can you tell me if the carbs (VDE3 32mm) out of a NC30 would fit my nc24? I have found a dealer from which I could buy those carbs as spare parts. Because sooner or later I will have to replace the diaphragm's on my old carbs.....

Another option would be to buy a complete enginge with headers clutch carbs etc. but its in pretty bad shape i guess. It has been taken out of the frame and been stored in a garage for over 3 years now with just having old engine oil in it.....does anyone have experience with that? I dont know what happens to those engines if they are not running this long.

And last but not least what would you say would be a fair price (in euro) for those parts....?

Thanks a lot!

greetings

they will fit but they will need adjusting to work.

NC30 carbs are almost as old as NC24 carbs.. the diaphrams should be fine for a long time yet.. besides there is a company that sells aftermarket diaphrams that you can fit to repair your current slides shoudl the diaphrams go.

The nc24 really isnt worth spending much money on. Its ok for its time but the nc30 is a much better bike, holds the money value better and can be ridden more like a modern bike.

if the engine has been stored properly and not somewhere damp / rusted up then it should be ok but seals can dry out so your valve seals might leak as well as other seals inside the engine.
