Re: 4dx cdi problems again
I know where there is a decent write up. I'll post here later tonight.

Re: 4dx cdi problems again
Yeah I got the buy it now one. I just wanted it standard in case I sell it. Found the rectifier problem had blown both headlight and rear bulbs as well
. Tempted to get an fzr600r now and keep 400 off the road to do full restore now. Plus our Doris quite enjoyed going out in it but they're not the best for pillion and I had it in mind to fit single seat rear end.

Thanks for posting that up.maccas wrote:
Adding to the above. DO NOT!!! fully remove the tab it will restrict in all gears.

Have you tried this method?
Is the 3MA speedo of the same construction as a FZR (restricted models) ?
The reason asked is;
Quite a few have tried to remove the speedo entirely for race purposes.
One stated categorically ; just remove the sensor and sender tab from the speedo, discard speedo , Gaffer tape sensor/sender and tuck it and the connecting wiring in behind the tacho.
I cannot see how this could be accomplished if the innards of the speedo are as pics.
The drive cable would still need to be connected to the restrictor unit. !
Unfortunately ; I have no spare restricted speedo head to experiment on ; only a 4DX unit clock assy.

Re: 4dx cdi problems again
If you knew the 0kmh and the "normal" speed signals you could have a switch that toggles between them. So switch at 0 start the bike, switch at + ride the bike, but I think that's pretty much what the M-Max does anyway.

Re: 4dx cdi problems again
Yes the speedo internals are identical to a 3ma 3xv and 3tj. My 3tj had the tab trimmed back when i got it and it would pass 180kmh no problem.
I've since removed the speedo as its become a track bike. I removed the circuit board from the clocks, left them plugged in and screwed the circuit board to the side of the rev counter. I place a piece of plastic inbetween the optics prior to turning the ignition on then once the engine is started i remove it then the bike is in unrestricted mode.
If you leave something in the optics it will restrict at 12500rpm in all gears.
If you unplug the circuit board it will restrict in all gears same as above.

I thought we knew this, although this confirms it.

Re: 4dx cdi problems again
The workaround bit is a new method, using a removable tab of plastic.
