regulator rectifier problems
Im having a problem with battery it wont charge. Measure 12.7 v at idle and 13 at 2000 rpm. Im at right in thinking
It should be approx 14.5 volts at 2000 rpm ? My regulator gets hot. Is it gone bad or not ??
Its a 1992 bike regulator has fins on

Re: regulator rectifier problems
Take it up to 5000 revs and it should be about 14.2-14.5v, face the bike towards a wall switch on lights you should see an increase in brightnesss as you rev up if it does then your alternator is charging , just because your reg/rec is getting hot does not neccesarily mean its gone for a burton.
Make sure the reg/rec is firmly fastened to the frame when it gets hot it shows that the alternator is charging and the reg/rec is dumping the excess electricity via the frame.
How old is the battery get it tested.
