If you have the converter and the speedo is plugged in then there's no need to do the mod.

If you have the converter the limiter is never triggered as the needle will never reach 180 on the clocks as they now read in mph.

If the speedo is unplugged then yes you will have a problem, but just plug it back in.

Other than that, it could merely be the fact the bike needs a good thrashing, or you have minor set-up issues with your carbs etc.

ok cool...thanks for all the help guys, yes its seems plugged in ok as theres a purple round converter in the back which looks in good order, ok ill make sure shes running on a 4 cylinders and take her out tomorrow and report back what happens...just hope she doesn't run and rough as she does on the stand but like you say she might clear up, fingers crossed

Hi guys I took her out today when I got her firing on all 4 cylinders, and shes running just fine, slight lack of power mid-range but im sure that's all how she should be....not as fast as I thought, compared to the zxr400 I test rode 10 days ago but sounds 10 times better I must say. I don't think she likes getting wet or damp so will try my best in keeping her bone dry. So far so good.

get it on the dyno when the weather gets a bit better and see hwo much power your producing, youd be amazed at how some of them feel ok after all the aftermarket fettling but are down on power.

I've had both bikes that put out decent power and were in good condition, My ZXR was 64hp compared to my NC30 at 58.5 but in a drag race you can't tell a great deal of differece between the two apart from the scream from the I4 of the zxr..

that's true...but she only has a end can that's it lol the zxr400 was a lot more responsive low down in the revs, a tad of throttle and she wanted to go lol but with the vfr she doesn't seem to be as the same, not a great deal of power unless in the 10k up revs to get her moving. Very much the same with my aprilia rs 125. To be honest iv got my aprilia set to a tea, and with the long first gear on the vfr she wouldn't put the aprilia to shame as much as I first thought. Vfr would win hands down but would make shaking off pretty hard work around town or very short track ect...aprilia being able to reach a top speed of 115mph on track which isn't to far away from the vfr too....I will put the vfr in for a tune a power run but im pretty sure she running just how she should at the minute. See what happens :)

From 2000 to 6500 the vfr should feel tractable although not hectic (I haven't ridden a zxr but the v four motor should feel stronger low down than the inline four), through 7000 it gets going properly. Max torque is at 10 000. The Long First means it isn't a drag bike its more a gt style, once it's running the fun is to be had, but I think something isn't happy with your mid range

I have read the same too...could anyone point me in the right direction for someone in the know how with these vfr 400 to tune balance the carb, valve clearances check ect in or around the Essex area?

Yes that doesnt soudn right.

The ZXR has a reputation for being flat low down, mine was really clean after a lot of fettling but no where near as responsive as a well setup vfr.

someone with a bit of knwoledge will be able to help, have you had a look at cammos carb guide?

My NC30 will at least match my Mrs' 600 Bandit in the lower rpm range. The Bandit will out-drag the Honda once revved but I bet there's not that much in terms of outright perfromance..
