NC30 Headlight issue

Post by IOW vfr »

My headlights on my Nc30 have been temper mental for a while, they kept getting stuck on high beam and now both low and high beam have stopped working. I have checked the bulbs and they seem ok. I was wondering if the light relay mod is what i should look into doing? and if so how difficult is it as i have never done any work with electricals before and if anyone has any pictures or a video then i would love to see them.
thanks

If you're using the 35w bulbs then you just need to clean the switch with contact cleaner or change it if that doesn't help. If you're using H4 bulbs with adaptors then you need the relay mod.

Sounds like the wrong bulbs have been fitted, H4, without adding a relay to a Japanese spec bike.

This will melt the light switch.

Even adding a relay now wont fix it as you've burned the switch out. Sometimes if you take it apart you can cut away burned plastic and it will work again, but you must fit a relay too.

This of course is based upon the wrong bulbs being the cause.. easy to check just look the wattage stamped on them and see if you have a relay if they are 55w/60

found out the filament in the bulbs had gone and they were the originals, bought new bulbs which are the uk spec ones so i need to do the relay mod. It says to use a 20amp 4 blade relay... online i can only find a 24volt 20amp 4 blade relay, is this suitable?

I think this is the same as the one I used, just put a 20A inline fuse in and it'll be fine. :peace:

There's a diagram I drew and some pictures of me doing the conversion here.

I did it a little different to most, running separate wires for the headlights straight from the battery instead of using the existing low beam wires.
