Re: Shock's and exhaust, a couple of questions..(now lights too)
I totally agree with you, I would rather have the right kit for the job from the word go. I think I got the impression that I could save a fair amount of money but still get a fairly good upgrade with a little added work.....I think I got a bit unlucky with the state of the shock I got too. So my next question is, which after market shock?royster81 wrote:i fail to see where the "saving" is when the rs250 shock is modded to fit,ok it might work out a little cheaper than, say, a new nitron from rick, but at the end of the day it's still an old shock reworked to fit a bike it was never designed for where as the new shock from rick is brand new, will fit with out messing around and 9 times outta 10 comes with the correct spring for your weight....oliherst wrote: I paid £30 for the rear RS250 shock, a rebuild, rechrome, respring will come to nearly £200 plus VAT......I might as well have bought the Maxton someone offered me for £300.
if your really wanted to do something about your suspension buy new or a fairly new shock designed for the bike from someone trusted from this forum.
but thats just my 2c worth
I want something that I am going to use mostly on the road, but occasionally on the track too, I see Rick does 3 different types of Nitron Shocks, the 'Sport' meets my wallet best, but the 'Track' appears to offer the best amount of upgrades versus stock shock.

Im on roysters side with this one!!
Should stick to the oe showa that was made for the bike and just get it re-worked, or go for an aftermarket one that is made for the bike..
You cant scrimp on the suspenders!!! thats coming from experiance, i raced a 02 R6 in 2004 & 2005 and in the second season i got a `cheap ohlins` that came off a fireblade, had it all modded to fit and i could not get a decent setting on the bike which resulted in lots of big offs, so if it dont fit to start with then dont fit it!!! it could prove costly to you and your bank ballance....
Biffff....

but anything is going to be better than what you have at the minute,my money would be on the road shock, thats where you'll spend most of your time, unless you commute on a race track, and if your honest with yourself would you be able to set it up to get the best from it and notice all the small increases,i know i bloody wouldn't and when i get my bike back on it's "feet" i'll be thinking of a road shock from rick.oliherst wrote:which after market shock?royster81 wrote:oliherst wrote:

maybe i have the wrong end of the stick and you're the next rossi,if i have i apologuise and in that case grab the all singing all dancing ohlins or hyperpro at nearly 500-600,thats what i did the first time around and anytime i change something on it i effects something else and it all rides worse than before.....the less knobs and screws you can turn the better i say.
but it's your cashola bud,if you get the all singing all dancing one from rick happy days and if you get the road one i'm sure you'll be happy with it also,if you get the road one and think you should change for the track one ...give me a call lol

I wholeheartedly agree Royster and Biff. I think I need to work on getting this idea out of my head that I'm going to notice any difference at all. I'm sure that I could go out and spend £££ on whatever bits and pieces for my bike and not notice any difference, I simply haven't been riding long enough. There are a lot of vetrans on here that swear by suspension upgrades, but they have all been riding long enough to notice the difference.
I think I'll get some money together and give Rick a call, get myself a nice little upgrade to the road shock and learn to ride it better. If I ever get good enough to warrant it (and that isn't likely in the lifetime of this bike) then I can always upgrade at a later date :)

i think you're being a little hard on yourself here oli,i went from a shagged '91 spec shock to a hyperpro shock and yes i noticed the difference alright, and it was within the first 50 feet and i had only owned the bike 6 months, but what i was trying to say was on the road anything is going to be better than what your used to,you may not need the best aftermarket shock (i know i don't) right now but once you upgrade to something better than standard you'll see the differance,my advice (which is probably worth nothing) is get the nitron road shock and change the fork oil to new stuff,or if you can get his fork spring kit (which i hve just done(fingerscrossed it arrives soon)) and you'll have a very smart handling nc30 to learn to ride on ...oliherst wrote:I wholeheartedly agree Royster and Biff.
