All went well putting on barrel and head and that is as far as I got. I got carried away on other bikes a the weather was so good.

Re: Won't start
Well a fairly manic weekend of building the bike. Got everything up together just waiting for the exhaust to come back from coating. Good news is I have decent compression across all four cylinders - about a145 psi but I don't trust the new compression gauge any more than the old one. Is there a decent compression gauge on a 10mm thread that tells the right compression and does not cost a kings ransom.

Re: Won't start
Managed to finish everything I needed to to get the bike to a stage where I could press the start button today, let the fuel pump primp a couple of times and it started straight away.
It's smoking like mad and I wondering if this is just build oil or I have cocked up.
I took it for a run and it was smoking not quiet as badly when I got back nevertheless still pretty bad.
Anyone had similar???

Re: Won't start
Was there any oil in the exhaust from a blow up or anything ?
I rebuilt a gsxr 400 that had gone bang before I got it and it smoked badly when I took it out and got it hot, I took the top end off again could find nothing wrong so refitted it but it still smoked!
Put another engine in and it still smoked.
So I had a bit of a Zen moment when I realized that it was the old oil in the pipe still burning off, I went out and gave it the caining of its life and that "fixed" it.
Worth checking.

Re: Won't start
Run it again until warm then shut it off quickly with the kill switch, pull the plugs out and check them.
At least it runs

Re: Won't start
Thanks guys for your replies
The exhaust was dipped and blasted before powder coating. So I don't think there is any oil in the exhaust but I still wonder If there is build oil in the system. I have taken it for a blast and its running Ok but stiil smokes on start up and when you back the throttle off.
I will look at the plugs tonight but I can't face taking the head off again.

Re: Won't start
This to me sounds like rings,Did you rebuild with new or did you refit the old,
Did you hone the cylinder before fitting.

Re: Won't start
It might clear, but it does sound like an oil ring. If you find one plug oiled up then that's where I'd start.
