Cammo wrote:No compatible calipers from other models. Your best bet is to flush the line, bleed with new fluid and fit new Honda (nissin brand) pads.
All a more powerful caliper will do is lock the wheel more easily, it's the geometry and weight (centre of gravity) of the bike at play here.
Cheers Cammo!

Re: Rear brake upgrade
Michael, if it is not too much to ask, what is the weight of the HRC rear calliper? How does it compare to the ISR?mruehl34 wrote:I have a nice update for you. HRC Kit rear brake Honda RC45. Will fit on a VFR/RVF.

Got a part number? I guess being HRC it'll probably cost more than most NCs are worth these days...

Re: Rear brake upgrade
I'm with the others only ever use rear for slow speed manoeuvring, and gears for downhill safer than coming unstuck with brake fade.

Re: Rear brake upgrade
Cueto65, I know the braking effect given by the NC30/35 rear brake is nothing 'amazing', but you can lock the rear wheel up easy enough, which means you can't brake any harder, and locking the rear end up just increases your risk of lowsiding the bike anyway. You could change the rear brake for the funkiest HRC/unobtanium rear barking system money can buy....and that will lock the rear up just as well...but still provide you no more braking "EFFECT" whatsoever - after all, locked up is still locked up whatever system is providing it.
It is all to do with the weight transfering to the front of the bike when you brake - further reducing the contact between the rear tyre and the road, hence the actuall braking 'effect' delivered. The front brakes are responsible for 90%+ of the braking on a bike - hence them putting twin / big discs there and a pidly small single disc on the rear.
Not meant in a derogatory way or anything, but learn to use your front brakes more (progressivly squeezing on the braking pressure to build up the tyre contact area - not grabing at the brakes) and quickly you will gain the faith in the front end and stop using the rear 95% of the time.

P.S. have a look at this particularly 0:45 onwards just to visualise the above (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ED8BfPtaTw)
..And from Kevin Schwantz himself (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ED8BfPtaTw)

Re: Rear brake upgrade
The link to Schwantz is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huGexZrovco , quite a good video. Schwantz was supposed to be a very late braker... interesting that he says he didnt use the rear brake at all. I suppose if he braked later than everyone else he had even less weight on the rear wheel and therefore it was pointless (it was probably hardly touching the ground)

Re: Rear brake upgrade
dohhh - a copy paste error, thanks Tiger claw..
...but the point still stands, 90% front 10% rear (at most). I was always scared of using the front so much, convinced the front end would just wash out and buckle undr me, but following a couple of track days where I even got the rear floating Moto GP syle under braking I became a convert.
