Will not start after service

Post by Flyingbanana »

I appologise if this subject has been covered a thousand times before but here goes,

I have had a NC24 for some years now & have not had any problemas at all. Starts first time every time until i service it the other day. I did oil & filter, air filter & plugs. With the tank of i noticed 3 connecting cables that were corroding there connection so i splt all 3 & put new connectors so they are all connected again. Put the bike back together, helmet on & went for a 30 min spin. A week later she will not start. I have checked that i have a spark from one plug only. She has fuel, battery is charged with optimate. I have had a look around the top & sides of engine to see if there are any cables handing off & all ok.

The bike turns over but does not bite & fire up. I have checked the 30A fuse & all ok. If i unplug it i have nothing. Put it in & get ignition lights & tries to start. I have flicked the kill switch off & on etc.

Help. This bike was perfect before i serviced it after a long trip back from Spain. :(

It could either be a spark or fuel problem.
First thing to check: Kill switch set to start/run? You wouldn't be the first to forget to this!
I'm not familiar with the NC24, but if it has a vaccum hose like the the NC30 & 35, make sure it's not kinked.
It maybe worth checking for spark on the other plugs too; it can be a bit of a pain but you gotta eliminate that possibility.

Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge on these bike will come along soon!

im 99% sure they will be yellow in color.. aka the generator feed to the reg/rec.

This plug get corroded and the wires melt.

Good idea to check the charging system fully.

Need to get it running firt though.

Cant be that much up with it, I take it your plugs are in properly and plug caps in ok.

Thanks for the quick responses
I know what you mean 'Speedy' with the ole kill switch. I have checked this but thanks
Yes the cables were a very pale yellow if my memory serves me correctly.
I guess it is a case of checking all the plugs for a sparks.
Question - Could it be wrong plugs ? I am sure when i got the plugs the manual mentioned 2 types, like a regional temperate difference. What are people using in the UK

They wont stop it firing, Theres a hot / normal / race range.

C6EH9 is stock.

A higher / colder one will foul up easier over long periods but it should start fine
