Kris; the exup valve does cycle at power up.ibby4585 wrote:Thanks for the info mate, appreciate it.
Just a query, are the exup valves prone to sticking as when I start it they start juddering and don't do a clean cycle. I'm assuming they do cleansing cycle like the ypvs system.
Kris
Rather than clearing carbon build up at ports as YVPS it is used as a means to set valve timing for cable adjustments
If yours still has the chrome pulley cover, remove this and moniter valve operation.
It may be cables, but is more likely to be sticking/partially seized valve.
It even may be plastic teeth partially stripped on servo unit if the valve is not operating smoothly.
Do not try to move the valve manually with the ignition on.
The valve is easily serviced;it is the removal where problems occur.
The graphite bushings may also be worn to excess causing the valve to "shudder"
Bushings are still obtainable circa £20 and copperslip grease is recommended at service.
The spring and washer behind the pulley are often missing/corroded away and they or similar replacements allow valve to operate much more smoothly.

Hope this was of some little help.(Oxy- acetylene is your best friend on this job.!!)

Re: Newbie FZR owner.
Brilliant links, cheers.
I've yet to take lower panels off and have a look. I'm guessing/hoping it just needs lubrication through lack of use, but will let you know next week, when it gets stripped.

It's still snowing ... I'm still not going outside
Got the ear stuck on, with hindsight though I should have done it the other way around and built up from the fairing out to the end of the ear, next time then.

So while that was going on I've also got the tail unit up together

The next bit will be will be sanding but not today - I've got housework to do

To be honest I've not had a look at it yet, been busy working and decorating!

I've got a few days off this month so will start working on it for the mot.

Re: Newbie FZR owner.
Started work on the FZR today after some bits had arrived from fowlers.
1. New ignition unit
2. Mirrors
3. Indicators
4. Plugs
5. Air filter
Fitted the new ignition unit and it looks so much better than the old damaged one.
A few queries I have after removing the tank and airbox. Has anyone got a pic of the 2 cable throttle adjustment on the carbs? Showing the cable routing?
I noticed that the throttle cables come in at an angle and I can't get the cables adjusted so they are taut and precise with the throttle grip.
Secondly can anyone tell me why the airbox adapters are so restricted? Seems crazy.

Re: Newbie FZR owner.
You're a bit off the radar on this because you have flatslides, everything between the airbox and the engine head is different and the only info I have is for CV carbs.
Maybe a racer can help you otherwise I'm going to assume you're having this dyno'd after everything's done so I'm going to suggest you get them to sort the throttle cables.
