Always had larger bikes most of them fireblades but fancied a winter project and the bike looked like it had been in a timewarp! Looking for any help/guidance/websites/good breakers ect to help me on the way. ;)

Will post up some pics soon and a list of wants and stuff that i have spare.

Well hello there :)

Lets start with the basics ... what colour is the bike ???
FZR400's are quite robust so what you'll need to get the bike running ...

Clean the carbs - check the jets are clear, do the jets by taking them out and replacing them one by one as the idle and mains look similar, the two outer carbs are different sizes to the inner ones.
New fuel filter
New air filter
New battery - I get mine through MDS as they deliver but you'll still need to get it filled with acid from a garage. There's an uprated battery you can fit to but it costs more.
New plugs - of course, try sparkplugs uk you can some irridiums for about £30
Fresh oil and filter - obviously
Coolant - it doesn't take long to do this so you may as well.
Fresh petrol.

You sound like you know what your doing so the above is going to be pretty acedemic.
Your only technical thing would be checking the valve clearances. Although the engine will run if they're "a bit tight" it won't run at all if they get to small. The good news though is that only need doing every 10,000. If you do this then renew the cover gasket they're a pain to fit with the engine in place so if it's done it's done. Oh and pour some engine oil over the cams so it drops through the top engine.

Make a list of the other bits you need and we'll see what people have got ... I've got some black bodywork.

Hi,
you can get most genuine Yamaha parts from Fowlers of Bristol, 0117 977 0466. Have your bikes frame number at hand as it is the first thing they will ask for.

http://www.fowlers.co.uk/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can get aftermarket parts from all the usual suspects,

http://www.bandcexpress.co.uk/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.busters-accessories.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.cmsnl.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.mandp.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.aa16.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I prefer to use Wemoto as they have a good range of parts, reasonable prices and they are very easy to deal with. I have also bought a lot of parts from Bitzforbikes, but they are a bit more expensive.

http://www.wemoto.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.bitzforbikes.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you race, have loads of cash or want to get completely carried away, then have a word with these guys...

http://www.bdkraceeng.co.uk/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

These sites are also worth a having a look at as they have some good info.

http://www.fzrarchives.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.rampant-racing.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.madsi.co.uk/index.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.richard-halford.co.uk/fzr400a.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hope this points you in the right direction.
I only please one person per day.
Today is not your day, tomorrow isn't looking good either.

Thanks peeps :D

Im not new to a spanner so getting dirty hands and sorting it shouldnt be too much of a problem (i hope) at least she runs which is a relief as i dont have huge wads of cash to throw at this project. Will be selling/swapping and offering my services to help finish this one!!!!

Not been racing but with a bit of luck and a chnge of finacial climate i would love to have a go before i get too old. Like to think im a pretty fast road rider so hope that i can hold my own on the track (although its easy to be fast riding the blade) but we will see what happens.........

Keep you posted and hope to meet some like minded people soon.
