I think half way is probably a bit far, but as long as the bike doesn't try and idle at outrageous revs, don't worry about it. If you get it started, wait until it's nice and warm, doesn't need choke, and idling steady. You can then wind the adjuster back out until the revs reach a sensible idle. About 1300rpm is what most people use, although the tach isn't exactly ideal for judging the figure that precise. I think the manual says 1300 +/- 100.

Ok went to try it again today and notice it bike sounded pretty weak, check the batteries and im getting 11.8 volts... The battery wouldnt be the problem in the first place would it? R/R seems fine. Should I just charge it or is it to the point of no return and get a new battery..?

Charge it, and do a load test when fully charged.

After it's fully charged put your full beam on without the engine running and keep an eye on the battery voltage.
Don't let the voltage drop below 11volts.
Should last 20-30 minutes before voltage gets too low, if not then it's probably a fudgered battery.

The battery may simply be very discharged because you've been trying to start the bike without success for some time. If the charging circuit is working correctly, the battery is only really needed to start the bike. A low battery won't cause the engine to run off-song if everything else is working OK. It'll only be an issue if the charging circuit is putting out a very low voltage AND your battery is suspect, at which point the ignition will be draining the system fast than what little charge is coming out can keep up with, and eventually the bike starts misfiring, and cuts out. I say eventually, on one occasion one of the reg/rec wires had corroded clean through, so the battery wasn't charging at all. A freshly charged battery of not too shabby age lasted 6 miles before there was no spark.

As above, charge it, and test it. It's probably related to your unsuccessful starts, or it might just be a coincidence. I doubt it's why your bike won't fire.

you need to check that the choke actually operates when you move the lever...

In that case, there's probably a very good chance they need cleaning!
