Re: NC30 rear disc removing question.
When i was a skint teenager i had a TZR125 with the powervalve pinned open, feck all bottom end and big kick in the balls at 6k, i could never afford a complete chain and sprocket kit so bought a chain or sprockets when i could afford to and id definatly say its the wrong way to to it as they wore out in no time at all. I wore the rear down that much once it eventually failed to work about 2 miles from home, that was a long walk pushing it home!speedy231278 wrote:I often wonder if the idea that a used sprocket might wear a new chain quickly is just sales talk. I know several people that don't subscribe to the theory and just change the sprockets when they get very worn and it doesn't seem to reduce the life any. In my case, I generally find that by the time the chain is shot on my 35, the rear sprocket looks pretty ropey too. Not entirely unconvinced that it's not far off now....

Re: NC30 rear disc removing question.
I remember those days. Then one day, a mate bought a tatty TZR to do up and flog for a song, and for £50 and the necessary blanking bits he took the servo and extra brainbox off it for me. Great fun to ride, unless the battery gets low because the reg/rec has packed up and the valve doesn't open when you expect... lol

Considering what we put them through TZR's were bomb proof. Not to mention shed loads better than the crap kids get to play with today.

xilvia, I suggest you forget about acting and become an MP or work for the BBC, your priorities are about on par with theirs.CRM wrote:fuck me, has that chain been used to pull the QE2xivlia wrote:okay i got the bike to support etc. BUT i cannot get the top bolt out of the linkage. got the bottom one out, but the top one is stuck there solid. and it will not move.
what can i do to remove this? heat it?
top one, i even cut my allen key so its just straight, plugged it in 8mm socket and to the socket wrench, and still will not move... i also prayed lots of shock & unlock.. no help.
that needs changing before it even goes near a road.
If you are still wondering why people give you grief.
Situation as we see it.
Chain / Sprockets / Brakes / Tyres:
Worn out and need replacing (essential items that can quite easily cost you your life)
What we would do
Save up if need be and get the best rubber that is affordable, put on a new chain and sprockets and get the brakes working.
What you did.
Brought replacement panels, spray painted the bike, brought a digital dash and fitted a shock from an S1000RR.
Why does it matter you may ask?
I predict the following will happen if you ever get it on the road.
While out with some friends you decide to give the bike a bit of a blast, around 100mph while on the gas your chain-shaped rust brakes, the recoil from the chain smashes the sprocket cover and sump sending oil all over the road and back tyre causing you to bin the bike.
Since you didn't have any money left for important bits, let alone expensive gear your left without the use of your legs.
Before you reply and start blaming the previous owner for braking everything and what not, you brought a 20 something year old bike, its your job after buying it to check it over fully and decide the order in which to do things.

Re: NC30 rear disc removing question.
nah the chains only got a bit of rust only on that area. the rest of the chain seems clear, no sticky links. the chain bends like a contortionist. Ricky, no my cogs are not fucked, i cleaned the sprocket last night and every bit of tooth in there looks good. it was just all black from the gunk build up. gave it a good clean with the wire brush.
like i said, il change the chain in a several months time, but im not gonna change the sprocket when i KNOW its not worn.
for the mean time. i can remove the small bits of rust with wd-40 and wire brush. i am not using the bike anyway. and when the weather gets better il swap it for a gold x-ring chain... they dont rust do they? since they are anodized and all..
