New Nitron shock install - help required (pics)
Hi all,
I am just installing a brand-spankers new Nitron 3-way race shock and have some questions to ask. There are some pics below to assist and questions may get lost in there so I have highlighted them - I hope it is not to bolshy - I am just looking to be clear and unambiguous.
I'll do a more pics and a full write up after I have had it out on track. I've got a practice day this weekend and a track day at Phillip Island next week and then a race day the week after - so, hopefully I can offer some feedback.
Here is the newly-cherished item:

And here is the willing recipient. My '94 probably-never-seen-a-road-in-its-life NC30 race bike:

I haven't taken thing to bits yet, pending some feedback about a few things.
Ok here we go:
Question 1: metalistic bush
(he heh .. he said 'bush')
Section 10.10 chapter 6 of the Haynes manual refers to a "metalistic bush rather than an needle bearing between the linkage pivot and the shock" and that is is 'essential' to take note of the relative positions of the shock and the pivot before separation.
What??
Question 2: Is this weird?
The left side of the linkages seems to have a gap and the right does not. Check it out:
Left:

Right:

Look like bad news?
Question 3: Torque values
Reading the haynes torque values I am left not being certain exactly what gets torqued to what value so I thought I'd ask here:
What does this get torqued to (bolt 1):

and this (bolt 2):

and this (bolt 3):

And bolt 4 is the shock to linkage bolt.
All help appreciated.
Many thanks,
Greg.

All I can say is that on my RVF the linkage is sat to one side as per your pic, and I did ask about this before but got no answer... so I'd be intrigues to know too! Is that the hydraulic pre-load option on yours?

Then we'll both learn something. :-)
Yes, that is the HPA on it. "if you're gonna be a bear, be a grizzly".

I was going to go with the full works setup like that, but I read that having the HPA removes the ride height adjustment option on the NC30/35. No idea why, I guess there's not enough room or something like that. So I figure I'll spend the HPA cost on a fork upgrade kit instead... :-) Can still change pre-load the hard way, and have something else to tinker with that I don't understand... lol

One I missed... the Honda service manual says all four shock bolts have the nuts torqued to 45NM or 33ft-lb.

Nope. It has the ride height adjuster as well as the HPA.speedy231278 wrote:I read that having the HPA removes the ride height adjustment option on the NC30/35
ok. Torque values sorted. 'Metelastic bush' sorted (people seem to ignore it, and I'll but putting an RVF linkage on now anyways).
Do other VFR/RVFs out there have the same gap of the left of the shock linkages and no gap on the right. Is this normal?

No HRC linkage, although setup included shock length extension as recommended by RO.
