How do you do this to a thermostat??

So while I'm waiting for valve shims, carb rubbers, and the fancy Samco coolant hoses, I decided I might as well check that the thermostat is working as it should. I open it up and find this:



As you can see, the central shaft is totally bent and it is wide open at room temp. Can anyone think of a way that this can happen except someone jamming it open on purpose?

So gotta order one of those, too. Luckily it's not too expensive. And new coolant O-rings, because they were more like rock than rubber...

That ain't right! As you probably know, you can order a new ones from power sports plus or other places. Like you said the part doesn't cost much and luckily Honda still makes that part.

Yeah, I added that to today's powersports+ order... All these little parts certainly add up. I just got my replacement carb gasket kit from Japan, which was probably by far the most expensive thing per pound I've ever bought... but since I have everything apart I figure it's worth replacing all the rubber parts, time is money after all... The short rubber tubes where the air pipes join between the carbs were totally falling apart, so I'm pretty sure there were vacuum leaks there. The carb rubbers themselves are in pretty bad shape, too.

I doubt Honda make the part themselves, but they're happy to put a VERY expensive label on the packet they come in. Think a genuine Honda part is the best part of £45, which is ridiculous when you consider that it's a common part and car ones are about a tenner! One of the few times I'd be happy using a pattern part, where it not for the fact that I got a new genuine one on eBay for about half the current price.

Those short rubber tubes just fell apart on mine as well. Hopefully I can find some tubing to cut that will fit around here. Maybe some heat shrink tubing will work.

Short rubber tubes? Are you referring to the fuel hoses or the ones that go to the sub air filter? Everything else between the carbs is plastic pipes. All the bits can be obtained new from Honda.

They are the super short ones that cover the joints where the plastic T to the sub air filter join the carbs. It's part #30 in http://www.akhara.com/nc30/nc30parts/files/17.htm.

Those hoses to the sub air filter are pretty bad too, but I was thinking of just getting some 10mm silicone vaccum hose and replace them all.

I don't think heat shrink tubing deals with fuel too well. I was going to order some silicone vacuum hose from http://www.hosetechniques.com, they are just a block away from me. I used a 3.5mm silicone hose from them to replace all the rotting vacuum hoses in my Passat, and they look like new 7 years later. Blue, too, they'll go nicely with your Samco hoses... Like I said, I think they will work for the entire length to the sub air cleaner.

They have a minimum order of like 5ft. I'll give it a try and if it works out I can send you a foot.

what is the diameter/size of the silicone hose you are going to use? i think it would be a good idea to replace them hoses aswell
