Stuck Wheel

Powder coater painted EVERY bit of my wheels (even the disc seats and threads in the front wheel, nightmare, but front wheel is fine now).

The rear wheel, I lightly sanded most of the paint off in the centre where it mounts, then I put the nut on and tightened it on. Now I need to put the rear brake on, but the wheel will absolutely not shift. I've tried putting various screwdrivers between wheel and wheel seat and prising it, nothing. I tried putting a plank across and BELTING it with a massive hammer, nothing. I'm starting to think it will never come off. Tried putting it in gear and turning the wheel off, still nope.

Running out of ideas for this unique problem

Bet you wont be going back there to have your wheels done, i cant belive you actually paid him for it. All i can suggest is get it up on a abba stand, lay on the floor and kick the wheel with both legs on opposite sides while having a mate there to catch it.

Sounds like you need to get some sort of expander to go between the arm and the wheel if it's at all possible. I'd be careful about belting it too hard in case you damage the rim. Or perhaps a very long pole to lever between the wheel and the arm. There's not a lot of room around there, so I don't envy you one little bit!

Already tried lying down and belting it

I can't see how this wheel is ever going to come off... at least not without damaging my beautifully painted wheel with fresh rubber on

Where exactly have you left PC on the wheel? the mating face or inside where it slides on the hub?

If its that bad you could always remove the axle with wheel attached, get it on a suitable surface and hammer the axle out rather than damage the wheel.

If you remove the wheel/axle hub assembly would it not be better to use a press rather than a hammer, no damage to the wheel or axle hub.

Theres a pretty good chance dan doesnt have a press, you might find a friendly local garage that'll do it for a drink

I've got a hydraulic press and lever operated press here! :)

That's the answer then. Press the hub off. Lesson learned.

Might have to do that, what a farce! I've learnt my lesson, never assume that powder coaters know what they're doing - even if you know they've done wheels before!

I'm coming back to Notts Friday morning, so I may pop over to Laminator and return his Abba stand and see if he could press the wheel off the hub for me. Funnily enough though, the rear paddock stand will be useless so I may have to leave the bike on jacks - either that or I might have to make two trips to Laminator over the weekend!
