Early Ram Air experiment.

Air mod:

So... I'm not sure if anyone noticed how bad the flow over the engine really is, there is wires and shit everywhere, bolts, HV leads, all kindsa shit really. In an effort (Now that I don't have an airbox) to improve flow, and cram some more air forcefully up into my carbs I figured I'd try this.....

Essentially its a bit of a ram air set up.
STEP 1: Move all the wiring and shit, and cable tie it to the main downpipe from the radiator, fuck it off out the way.
STEP 2: Get some 0.5mm aluminium, drill 2 holes in the apropriate place at the front of the air tray.
Step 3: Put a nice curve in it up to prior to bolting it on. (Helps give it a nice flow on to the top of the carbs.
STEP 4: Slide down alloy sheet over the HV leads, so your left with a really nice, smooth surface for air to flow over, and get rammed up into the airbox area.
STEP 5: RACE

Sadly, i forgot to take picks of it bolted in before putting my tank back on. Its raining outside atm, but I look forward to seeing if I get any improvement in mid range and top end. I've also bought some 152 sized jets and put back in the HRC springs for this trial. Jets aren't here yet, but its all good i'll keep yas posted.

Though not seen here, the finishde product looks fantastic, and has a fine alloy mesh screen now... to keep rocks out. Actually looks really good. When I take the tank off again i'll pic it up.

I cant see how that gunna make any difference at all sorry, apart from direct air away from cooling the carbs which is half the job of the HRC tray. Id like to be proved wrong tho.

the bikes generally don't like to be force fed turbulent air - they starve and run shit. If you want to ram air it then you need to seal the airbox and fit a fuel pump and sort the pressurising of the carbs.

Be good if you got something going and do feel like a front bottom raining on the parade...but seen it all before and it doesn;t work*

Fair call, rain away, it was just a last minute thing anyway, it's two bolts, can always rip it off.

I have a sealed airbox with a nice big scoop on it, i could easily modify it to take a face full of front air i suppose, anyway, i'll remove it if its gonna cause hassles. Thought it might be fun to try, no biggy. I've finished all my assignments, fixed all my crash damage, more bored looking for shit to do anyway ;)

Did you ever get a chance to see if your experiment worked or not?

next race meet is the 11th and 12th of august. I've done a quick blat up n down my street and my midrange is much tidier, but i've also got my HRC spring in there. The way I see it so far is that its not really "Ramming" as it is smoothing flow and just increasing pressures under the tank fractionally, allowing cooler, smoother air to get up there. I'll definitely keep your guys informed, since it was a 2 dollar mod ;)

Its just an alloy plate to smooth out some airflow, its not like i've drilled holes in the throttle bodies...

Woops, completely fucked up the last post...

Ok so the race is at morgan park in warwick, track temp will be cold as but race 4 will be in spring months, still a good day of sun will warm it up.

If you go to google maps you'll find it, we are racing the J circtuit which can be found on their wesbite (and the configuration.)

I HAVE A FUCKING MEGA MAN FLU AND I'M ALMOST DYING THOUGH!!! SUCKS!!!

I leave friday, I'll update with my results sat, but can't wait to take the bike for a blat!
I got my modded rearsets on there too, should have some more room to move about now ;)
Cheers all.
