Carbon Air box
Hi guys,
I've got a Tyga carbon airbox, with the 8% increased volume, just a little question on installation
At the rear of the stock airbox is a small sub-filter with two hoses which breathe for something in the carbs.
The top half of this smaller box is (understandably) not replicated on the carbon item, so what should I do about it?
I was thinking cut the small part off the stock top-piece, then tape the two halves together or something...
Has anyone installed this who can tell me what they did? Do I even need those breathers?
There is another breather hose on the left-hand side which just goes from the outside of the air-box to the ground,
this one seems rather unnecessary so I'm happy to eliminate it... question remains on that one, why is it there in the first place?
Cheers guys

Yeah I cut it off my airbox and fixed the two halfs together. let me know how you get on with the tyga box as when i put mine on it completly ruined the fueling. Russ

Re: Carbon Air box
The sub-air filter isn't really needed, as racers vent the crankcase to a catch tank rather than the airbox.
The other hose is a drain hose for water/fuel that drains off the top of the airbox. This usually goes to the belly pan.

Re: Carbon Air box
I think Superlite has answered the main question, so thanks for that.
Regarding the messed up fueling Russ, did you replace the stock rubber nose piece in the box? If not the fueling will be very different and will be messed up. With the rubber piece in place, the engine will get more air and this may need some jetting changes as you'd expect. The idea is you increase the air so you can increase the fuel and therefore increase the power. However, it is only fractionally bigger than stock so it shouldn't 'ruin' the fueling. What set up has your bike got?

Re: Carbon Air box
Maybe i was being abit ott when I said it ruined it, The bike is a uk spec with 122f and 120 rear jets, full tyga exhaust and foam filter with opening meshed in standard box. runs well, bit of a very small stutter at 6-7k which needs sorting. With the carbon one on and the snorkal fitted it seems like its running out of fuel and dont rev well. Im not sure if putting the snorkal in is restricting my air flow too much or not as the hole in the front of the standard box is quite big!. maybe i should try it without the snorkal? If not any ideas on what jetting etc thats needed with the snorkal in and maybe with a standard filter? Thanks Russ

Re: Carbon Air box
Well it looks like the airbox has made my bike quite lean at idle....
I got really worried because it sounded like something metallic might be in one of the cylinders, despite having covered up the carbs.
Someone on my local forum pointed out it could be pinging, and I noticed next time I ran the bike the sound only started once I backed the choke off.
Is it possible to tweak the pilot screws without taking everything back off? What kind of weird and wonderful tool can do this?
I have a long thin screwdriver but the angle is wrong and it doesn't seem quite long enough...
--edit: everything else has remained standard - airfilter, snorkel etc.

Re: Carbon Air box
I just stick my hand in there with a watch screw-driver to adjust the pilot screws. Fiddley but possible.
My NC35 is running 2.75 turns out and the NC24 is running 2.50 turns out althoguh i'm gonna lean this off a bit next time I ride it.

Re: Carbon Air box
It will be running very lean with this jetting and a foam filter (i.e. won't rev out cleanly), see my post (logged in as Superlite my bro accidentally..) in the workshope section 'power loss in upper gears'.russ tyson wrote:The bike is a uk spec with 122f and 120 rear jets, full tyga exhaust and foam filter with opening meshed in standard box. runs well, bit of a very small stutter at 6-7k which needs sorting. The nc's are very fussy when it comes to fuelling and changing the induction setup, more so than any other mods you can do.
