Electrical prob

Post by westspring »

Hi guys,
My bike seems to have some prob with charging. normally when the RPM of a bike goes higher the charging of the batt also increases am i right. too average 13 Volts. But my bike does the opposite. When its idle the charging is at 13 volts. and when the RPM goes higher (when i rev) the voltage just keep decreasing. from 13 Volts drops to 12 then to 11. till it evens out at about 10.5 Volts when it is at 11k RPM. what might be wrong with my bike? i recently changed my static generator and my regulator/ rectifer as well.

Did you replace the generator & reg/rec with new or used items?

It sounds as though the generator isn't even kicking out anything at all.

If you search the workshop boards, there's a guide to checking it all out somewhere :peace:
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

could your voltmeter be faulty? try using a multimeter straight @ batt to see the voltage? :rocks:

If your test are correct it sounds like a faulty reg/rec.

So? If only everything was always perfect from new and lasted forever!
The charging system only has 2 componant parts so it has to be one of them or the wiring between, if the wiring/plugs are intact then new parts or not something has to have failed.
