Re: rear sprocket help
The rear sprocket is bolted solid to the sprocket holder which slots into the cush drive rubbers so although the sprocket will not move the sprocket holder will have a little bit of movement fore and aft which takes up the shock of gearchanging giving the rear chain an easy life. there would also be movement if there is a bit to much play in the sprocket holder bearing and you would have to take out the rear wheel to check for play in this bearing hope this helps rick

Welcome spannermonkey.
In which direction to you feel play? Side to side, fore and aft?
Be worth getting it apart and checking it out for obvious issues.

Re: rear sprocket help
Sounds like the chain tension adjuster cam is fooked then.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Re: rear sprocket help
Adjust it with a C spanner and make sure you tighten the pinch bolt back up afterwards. If you can still move the wheel back and forwards (ie; adjusting the chain tension), it's fubar.
