3en1 Top fairing trouble

Post by scuffer »

Hi all i am a newbie, i am probaly what you call a born again TROUSER FIREWORK biker, after many years in the bike wilderness i have now purchased a fzr 400 3en1 to rebuild, it was going quite well until i fitted the top fairing which went on a treat then i tried fitting the lower fairing panels which dont line up, they are definately the right lowers but since purchasing a screen for a 400 that didnt fit i have now discovered that the top fairing is from an fzr 600, is this correct that these parts arent interchangeable or is there something else a miss. i have read in some places it will fit and in others it wont so thought i would ask cheers guys. also i am looking for a single seat unit if anyone has one or could tell what else is an easy fit . thanks again

i think you can use a 'whole' 600 fairing, but like you say i think its a bit more involved getting the two to meet, have you tried slackening the fairing bracket mounts and seeng if it sits any better, you might have a bent frame that is causing problems.

The fairings should work - but there are lots of different types of Yamaha fairings, they all look similar but some are more similar than others.

Have a look at the part number it should be moulded into the back of the plastic 3HE is FZR600 which should work 4JH is the later FZR600R Foxeye and won't. The FZR400R 3EN1 wil have eirthe 3EN or 1WG. The proper nose fair sould have twin round headlights and (false) air intakes above the lights.

Your fairing lowers should be 1 piece per side

The lowers i have are not originals which is probably a problem but are the same as the ones pictured, the top is poss a 600 as i had to order a fzr600 year 88 screen which fits, there is no part no as again it isnt an original. its the same looking as what should be on there the scoops above and the two round lights. but when its all offered up there is a good 30mm plus gap between the two meeting up. i will take some pics, i think i need to hunt some genuine ones and start from there.
lesson learned is not to paint every thing up in loctite colours until you check everything fits.

Thanks guys

The 3EN1 FZR400 and 3HE FZR600 screens are the same :peace:
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.
