cbr 400 nc23 tri arm tuning

Post by minibreaker »

i have bought a crashed sbr400 triarm which is now fixed and running and riding well, i am used to riding a 600 ninja but really like the cornering of the 400 but it does lack speed(in my opinon). is there a re jet kit for the carb that can be fitted or anything else i can do to imporove it as i know these things can be very quick
#also if i tune it how likely is it to blow up it has only done 27k

i was not aware it had a cdi but what would i be looking for??? and also it has a stainless performance exhaust with 5 inch stubby and it only seems to get to 100mph so not sur eif its restricted but its not in the carbs or exhaust as i have replaced the exhaust and rebuilt the carbs unlss the jets were downsized

the INTERESTING one for me is what engine 600cc will go in the 400 and would it be a straight swap as i do like the handling and would like that little bit more power thanks in advance cheers

check what colour sticker is on the cdi unit, it located under the pillion seat at the rear (behind the rear light)

as above, check the CDI, remove pillion seat and look to where the rear lights are, there should either be a gold sticker (unrestricted) or blue sticker (restricted), you mainly need a gold one or even a programmable one but they set you back around £200..

iirc your jets should be around 110 as standard, but maybe should be a few sizes bigger to compensate exhaust system.. OR if it is restricted, theyre should be 4 metal 'discs' or 'big washers' with holes in the rubbers which hold the carbs to the bike.

With the engine transplant, i haven't done this so my knowlegde aint too great on it but its a older CBR600 engine which fits, it requires the wiring from the 600, also, the engine mountss from the frame need to be cut and new ones welded to hold the engine in, Leapard_Pagan (i think its spelt) done this to her bike, she can help you :)

The next best thing to tuning is lightness, if its solo use only, cut subframe, remove pillion pegs etc etc

also as far as im aware there is no dynojet kit available for the Nc23 carbs.. there are HRC replica's i think you can get but again, im not sure.. think the HRC stuff is only for the 30 and 35..

Yup GF does HRC replica short stacks. The hrc manual shows that the bike should run with no airbox like the nc30 set up but so far I have not been able to locate an hrc carb kit but I have found the hrc air tray:

With regard to other tuning how deep are you pockets? You could go expensive with big bore kit, Race cams, porting , nice adjustable rear shock, updated forks with race tech emulators and springs etc etc
