I agree.... it also seems many of the MV Agusta crowd like dry look carbon.. But it has been said that dry carbon can look false too... so it is a bit of a marmite look if you have dry look composites..

As so many people said glossy I have polished up the moulds to get a gloss finish... I can still do a satin finish if I use a satin PVA Release. I have trimmed up the parts and put some polish on them too... So you can see what they will be like...

The moulds too most of the day to polish up and then seal with Chemlease sealer and to make sure they have had 4 coats of sealer and 4 coats of Chemical release too... I have two more coats to apply tomorrow and will be making some parts from the moulds..





Remember these are not glossy parts and were made from scrap carbon... But even with the patchwork of material behind the surface layer they both weigh in at 103grams!! There are 3 layers of carbon in each one.

First glossy protectors are now laid up and in the oven. I will let these cure overnight but worked out how much material is needed to make a set of swing arm covers. I can do the first 5 sets using up some extra material I have left over from another job for the backing but need a couple of meters of new material for the surface.

These 5 sets I can sell for £50.00 per set inc postage. They will be 3 layers of carbon and not just surface carbon with glass between the outer layers. I know most only use carbon on the faces you can see with glass to bulk up the thickness.

Carbon Kevlar would be £55.00 per set inc postage.

What do you guys think? Once the backing carbon is used after I have made 5 sets then it would add £10.00 for forum members.

I will post up pictures as soon as I pop them out of the moulds.

Brilliant.. My first customer..... Well.... there is a waiting list and your order will dealt with promptly... Erm... I just have to erm...... well... you see.... its like this...Erm....

I popped a set out this morning and there are a few little areas I need to just finish off in the mould... You can look and run your fingers over the surface but tiny holes ot hollows dont seem to be noticed until you make a part and they stand proud.. I have just sorted those little areas out now and will be re-polishing the mould today and tomorrow to just be happy with them.. So I will let you know on Monday.

They do look nice.. I am just not 100% so want to just spend a day now getting it right and not once the mould has been worked and has hardened even more...

OK.. Moulds tried and tested.... Not bad.....
Here are a couple of photos of Levo's swing arm covers...

No lacquer just gelcoat and a quick polish up... About 50grams each still..




No cheating here either... Carbon backing with Carbon Kevlar on the front so nice and strong and as it is Vacuum bagged it has almost no exess resin and is within 10-20% of the resin content of Prepregs. I use my own mix of resins too..

Tested part and not fully trimmed yet....Just hacked the flanges off and threw it on Levo's pile of...erm....... Project bike.
