Marks bike - looks like this is the end
Hi guys, had a rear puncture and had to have a new tyre and they found just about everything wrong with it! Needed a new type on the front too! Brakes seized engine running really bad at low revs now and the dealer was concerned that I was wasting my money on two tyres. Basically he said if it is rideable then just do a oil/ filter change and just ride it until it stops!
Needs new chain/sprockets. But again was worried I was wasting my money!
Mr EC got Pirelli tyres!
I've had 6000 miles of fantastic riding shame as though not too much more.
Thanks for all your help and advice so far!

Thanks Taggy, the tyres are now fitted as it was up on the stands and had to make a decision so I had to spend out! Their only suggestion was to try anothe set of carbs to see what it is like but really difficult to get hold of.
Thanks Anyway!
Mark

The trouble is it is a 3tj with a genuine 1wgengine in it. I really love it and it has never run perfect at slow speeds but it is a lot worse now. Infortunately I see the bad straight away and it does have 3tj carbs but hope to take it out and try and see if I can pinpoint the trouble!
Wheres mr EC when needed, don't really blame you after all the earache I have given you over the months!

Was this the same garage were the bloke works that you bought it from ???
OK first thing is don't panic. The bike still runs and it will for a while. One of the things a "by the book" garage have to do is highlight any other problems with a bike (health + safety) this is so that you don't ride it away and then sue them because "xyz is wrong now and it wasn't when I came here .... " they're probably just covering themselves.
The brakes - well you knew they were probably doing that anyway.
It runs rough - nothing new there.
It's the same bike that you took to them and really they've only confirmed what you knew before so nothings changed. 6000 miles that's clocking on a bit really you should have done oil at 4000 but it's not such a big deal.
As we said before :
1 change the oil + filter
2 check the valves
3 Clean the carbs and get them set up
4 ride it till it stops - shove in another engine and repeat

Thanks EC no it is a different garage who are pretty good to me! I guess I'm most worried about the valves but at the moment I have no confidence to do them, garage said don't worry about the valves but they would do them if I wanted so I think that's what I need to save for.

Ah - then they're just giving you a "condition report", no need to worry.
Your only worried about the valves because you can't see them, chances are they're fine.

I'm sure it's not as bad as you think. Where are you based? You're welcome to make use of my workshop facilities (such as they are at the moment) as long as you bring your own bacon and brown sauce
If you ever decide to sell, let me know.

If you ever decide to sell, let me know.
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Re: Marks bike - looks like this is the end
Thanks chaps I live in Wiltshire (westbury). I just come back from a ride to wear the tyres in about a 100 miles weather awful. The slow bad running is slightly worse and it is exactly at 2800 - 3000 rpm. When you go on the over run throttle back you can hear the exhaust burbling quite a bit which to me is signs of weak mixture. If it was backfiring I would say valves. The handling is really good on the new tyres! One stretch of open road I checked the revs and it went round to 15000 rpm very briefly so that cheered me up but not to be repeated!! I can hold the throttle at 2800 and you can hear it unhappy but rev up past that and feels sharp! I need to fit throttle cable so carbs will be off and the inlet manifold rubber that I was unable to change due to the Allen bolt getting rounded off.
I must admit I will never sell it as it has given me so much pleasure just need to get my confidence up and do some jobs!
Thanks again
