Newbie Question NC24 side lights being indicators OK for MOT

Post by Harrismag »

Hello,
I finally got a 400 to play with, D reg and not that pretty at the moment just trying to get it ready for MOT. Now when I put the lights to side lights the indicators are on i.e. like US spec. No front sidelight/park light, just indicators. Is this OK for English MOT?. If not has anyone rewired to stop the indicators from coming on?.

Cheers

D653 by anychance?

My bikes failed before now having them on, It depends on the examiner.

To check the fail sheet..
(Indicators Stay Illuminated) Front Position Lamp Incorrect Colour (1.1.2a)

If you want to stop them comming on, remove some of the outer sheath and you'll see 3 wires going to the plug. Blue / Blue & White Stripe / Something I forget and Orange / Orange & White Stripe / Something I forget for the otherside.

Cut the ones with the white-stripe to stop the sidelights working.

...Or if you don't want something so permanant, remove the bulb (its a 23/8w dual fillament) and put some electrical tape over the one side of the bulb holder to stop it making contact.

If you look aroudn i've posted links to the owners handbook I scanned (which has full wiring diagram in it) and the sales broucher

There both available at my website anyways... Here

Ah well done! I knew someone would find it. I couldn't be bothered to look.

Just depends on MOT inspector. If in doubt go ask who you plan on taking it to.

Cheers guys for your help, sorted. Just took out the white tracer wires from the connector block on each side.

MOT people said a fail as running lights, so I had to remove, but say even without a front they will pass.

Once again cheers

I know the indicators being on permanent as running lights, my NC24 went straight through its MOT with running lights on no problem. After taking a read of the other thread relating to side lights/running lights I think its a bit harsh that the MOT tester made the chap fit a side light. Ive had no trouble with mine even after being picked up by a copper for a loud exhaust, he didnt seem bothered about the side lights when he was checking my machine over.
