Re: 3TJ Downpipe clamps
when you say a metal divider in the collector box do you mean the exup valve
do you have an exup valve
it's in the collector box (as in the bottom of this pic) you can see the exup pulley on the left and the valve seating sticks out the right

if you do and it's not well enough adjusted then they make the type of sound you mentioned and rattle like a good un

Re: 3TJ Downpipe clamps
I see! Because it is an aftermarket one the EXUP system has been completely removed as pic:

But the collector part just before the final piece of pipe has the loose piece of metal in, i assume it was to seperate the flow until the very last point but im not too sure.

Re: 3TJ Downpipe clamps
if your lucky you might find once you get the pipes off, the offending bit of metal will come out the fat end of the pipes
as for the header nuts use some plu-gas on the studs and leave overnight then reapply before trying to remove the nuts, if the studs come out the engine then all well and good, your probably better off replacing them any way
you can use a bit of heat on the nuts but only enough to heat the nuts not the studs and remember if you use a releasing agent (plus-gas or whatever) it's flammable
EDIT do you still have the exup servo attached, under the tank, left side mounted on-top the engine casing (black thing) if so your better off looking for a decent set of headers with exup and buying the cables, for that matter it'd be cheaper to get another set of headers, servo and cables than buy a set of aftermarket pipes and you wont have to scream it's nadjers off to get it to go round town

The 3TJ 02 SP colour scheme is nice though, I like it more than the usual dark red / white
Are you near London then ????

I work in Southwark and live in Euston ... it was early in the morning so I didn't go !!!
the fairing lowers don't usually cost that much on Das Bay , I can tidy them up a bit if you want

Re: 3TJ Downpipe clamps
Can I say that I have had the same problem with a set from sandybike spares for my cbr400. I did not overtighten ( I do know to keep it parallel to the head) but the header clamps distorted and snapped like I had overtightened. The stainless parts that keep the 4 into 2 have either cracked or dropped off, this happened just as the two year warranty ran out and they would not replace them.
I got the clamps welded up and they have been fine since, I have to get the final one that was not snapped done now as I noticed it is also cracking and get some brackets welded on between the 4 into 2.
I notice they now sell an "upgraded design"
